Anyone good at statistics?
    #7651020 -

So I'm mathematically retarded, but I have to pass statistics as part of my Universities core requirements. I crammed and crammed for my first test and pulled of a 79%, which is good enough for me, and has my grade at a high enough level to pass for now.

Next test is tomorrow. I've been working all weekend (coaching at a high school policy debate tournament) and had very time to sleep and study. I'm hoping to get home early enough, pass the fuck out, and wake up at 7-8am to study for the test at noon. My teacher is pretty straightforward with whats on the test, and I'm starting to look things over.

A lot of the stuff I find on the internet includes the formulas and such, but doesn't simplify it enough, include what different parts of the formula are, or explain whats going on. If someone could briefly explain how to do a few of these problems, I would be eternally greatful!

- Calculating the probability of different poker hands in a 5 card hand (pair and higher). For example, "what are the chances of getting 4 of a kind" or "a royal flush". Another problem which will follow the exact format will be something along the lines of "in a group of 30 people, what are the chances 2 of them have the same birthday"

- "State and expand Pascal’s Triangle and explain the nth from a Combination point of view…"
I've gotten familiar with pascals triangle. I'm guessing the question asks to write and expand the triangle to a certain point. What does "explain the nth from a combination point of view?" Do you think it refers to explaining the combinations a given number has within the different patterns? Or is "the combination point of view" a specific statistical term?

-Show workings and give examples of: Fundamental theorem of counting, permutations, and combinations.

Thank you for the help. Some good examples or explanation will help me understand what the problems are asking, and save my ass on this test. God I hate math, I just want to get this over with.

I feel your pain, man. I failed Stats the first time I took it, but thankfully my University lets you "repeat and forgive" 2 failed classes during your college career. So I retook the class, with a different, and in my opinion, much better teacher mind you, and pulled off a B+.

We used SPSS on the tests though so I really can't help you as I didn't actually learn shit except how to go through the motions on the computer, heh.

haha, well unless we have a resident statistician, looks like I'll just have to piece everything together in the next 20 hours using the internet and the book, and sleeping sometime.
