Dung Garden in michigan? will it work?
    #745862 - 07/14/02 04:03 PM (21 years, 7 months ago)

I am curious if this would work. I live in michigan and right now during the summer it is extremely humid and about 80-85 everyday. I have a garden in my backyard and i was thinking of taking a part of it and laying down some Horse Dung. Then innoculating the dung with decomposing bodies of pan subs, and some spores i have in syringes. I was wondering if this would work and if so what should the location be like. The bed is automatically watered which alone helps with Pan. Sub growing. Your wondering why i chose pan subs, i chose them because they naturally grow here in michigan so it makes sense. Just give me any recommendation you can.

thanks in advance.

Try Moe's Outdoor Tek by clicking here. Your best bet is to use fully colonized cakes though, not straight spores. That way would take wayyyy too long.

Ive been watching the squirrels here in MI for a month now and all I can say is I seen them grow some keepers creepers and some PESA's. They usually choose a shady area next to a house that never gets direct sunlight. They usually water them 3 times a day, and a few weeks ago when it was hot as hell, I seen them scurry off with about 213 wet grams from their first flush. Mind you this is not a big bed at all, just one rye cake and some vermiculite.

hmm, so what would be the best way to colonize a cake the fastest? and what strain would be the best?

The squirrels have an incubator which they use for initial colonization. When the jars, bags, whatever are done they moisten up the verm and dump the colonized rye straight on the ground and put a layer of verm on top. Usually I see them drag a trash can lid over and place it on top for a week or so and they water once or twice a day depending on how dry it is etc.
The thing is how sneaky they have to be. You dont want the neighbor getting to it.
