Computerized Strike Zones in Baseball

Like, a computer calling strikes instead of Country Joe West.

The Umpires hate the idea, which makes me think there must be something to it.

Definitely against. I love the idea of yelling at a piece of shit ump who can't make a call right, rather than a computer. Plus, the umps getting in yelling matches with coaches and players, face to face is awesome and the subsequent ejections too.

Against. Judgment calls by the umps is a part of the game we know and love. I think this idea is ridiculous. Sure it would get rid of the bad calls against you but it would also eliminate the bad calls for you.

I'm for it. It wouldn't slow down the game like football instant replay and it wouldn't be subjective like football instant replay.

They shouldn't touch baseball! The decision challenge in Football takes away the official's authority over a call! Granted, it may help their team having a bad call over turned, but I think it's a part of the game.

These games were invented without computers. They were made to be refereed by a paid official. Mistakes in human judgment are inherent to the game.

Challenging decisions in baseball, or removing the need for an umpire is ridiculous.

A family friend hates baseball because of that.
He also hates the Beatles.

Me, personally, I would be for the computerized strike zone. The only reason bad calls are part of the game is because there was no technology like this when these games were invented. It's stupid to say bad calls are part of the game and tradition. To me, the less excuses the losing team can make the better.

I'm for it, I suppose.

I dont see why anyone would be against it. Its pretty obvious that calling balls and strikes is a very hard thing for an umpire to do, and many get it wrong.

Sure, alot of pitchers would be angry and would have to make adjustments. Guys like Maddux or Glavine that are used to getting a couple of inches off the plate. But they would get used to it, and I think the game would be better off in the long run.

I'm against it.
While I'm all for objectiveness in baseball for once, the only real reason to watch the sport is that it's tradition.
Certainly not for the athleticism.
