Re: ecudorian strain/spore chicks??????Please respond

I also ordered from the chicks a syringe full of eq goodness. I have eight jars colonizing at the moment. No contamination (knock on wood) but things are moving slowly. Regular 1/2 pint only about 40% colonized. Two smaller jars 80%-90% after two weeks. I only inoculated at two points to cut down on chances of contamination (should have made it four). I would suggest 2ccs per 1/2 pint jar.

Good Luck!

The EQs spores that I got from the SporeChicks were nice. Visuals were good and not too much of a body load. Pretty clean trip, my friends agreed as well. I'd give em the thumbs up!

Python,

I am following the PF tek. As far as I can tell, there isn't a whole lot of difference between the two. If you are using pint jars 3ccs of spore solution per jar might not be such a bad idea.

Is it absolutely neccassary to put 3ccs in every pint jar or is that just for speed colonization. will i have success if i just put 1/4 cc in ea of the four hole like mmgg states. IT states to double the substrate recipe if going w/ pint jars but does not mention double the spore amount. whatis a smart thing to do with only one syringe??????

1/4 cc is good. With more it will colonize faster and less likely to contaminate. It basically is a personal decision.

I wouldn't use less than 1cc. 3cc is recommended (beats out contams more and faster colonization), however my first couple of batches were created all with 1cc/jar.

okay if i was to take my cake from a 1pint jar and after it is completely colonized could i take the cake and cut it right in half giving me 24 1/2 pint cakes rather than 12 pint cakes. This would probably produce more shrooms right?IF so should i put the freshly cut side facing up or the freshly cut side facig down?Does it even matter.Basically does the mycelium colinate every square inch of the cake internally and externaly. I am very interested in this, this could mean 2X the shrooms for me when i decide to start. hopefully this doesnt sound like a stupid ? Could not find the answer anywhere.please respond!!!!!!

Python,

I suppose you could cut your cakes in half and just put them in your terrarium or you could case them. If you just cut them in half you might end up exposing uncolonized substrate to contamination. That could be bad.

I'm using growing the eqs from them now have already harvested about 30 5-7 inch tall beauties from my casing.Spore chicks are really cool.Hope this helps.

Since this sounds like your first time, I would personally stay exactly with the TEK. Word for word. No cutting, splitting, casing or anything. Follow the directions to the letter.

After you have grown a couple of times then I would start to experiment a little bit (maybe varying growing conditions, adding things to the substrate etc, etc,), but for your first run don't get fancy, stick with the TEK.

The mycelium will colonize anything that is nutritive that it has access to. If you have 12 jars just birth them normally, or you could try casing the colonized substrate, but for your first time I'd stick with the TEK.

Python: if you have a number of jars, I would advise casing one or two. It's really relatively easy, and is just an all-around better way to fruit.
Lesson for the day: don't be afraid to case.
