goin to the dr
    #6901724 -

I have this stress/anxiety issue that has just been snowballing for about 8 months.

going to the dr today. *sigh* probably get put on crazy pills. I feel like such a weenie, like I can't handle a job... but according to a lot of people who work there, this job is unnecessarily stressful. there are at least 5 people on my team alone who are on some type of blood pressure/anti-depressant/anti-anxiety medication.

I'm a senior account manager for business to business telecom sales, and I only deal with hi-cap orders, T1 and above. and since that little "senior" is in front of my job title I have about twice the responsibilities and held more accountasble than my regular account manager counterparts.

if you have to go on medicines just to deal with the job you work at, I honestly can't see that the job is right for you. I did the same and tried to get on Dexedrine for work, and found that I was crazier than ever.

I truly don't believe any of those medicines are good for you. it's much better to be jobless and healthy than the other way around ...

Your job is just a job. Don't let it take over your life. It's important to seperate your business life from your personal. When it carrys over too far into your personal world, you lose who you are in that job. It's a very dangerous thing to do.

Nip it in the bud now.

Bad advice.  Sorry.  It's more important to have a job while staying healthy at the same time.  That's what he should shoot for.  When you have a job, you have money, and you can use that money to do things that make you happy.  You dig?

well, the job itself is stressful, which is a physical thing. Sure, I can control my thoughts and not think about that place when the day is done, but it's hard to stop the physical things once I'm clocked out for the day. it's hard to come down from being in a high stress atmosphere. I do somewhat meditate, but when I finally calm down I'm completely burnt and lethargic.

Dude, I know. I got burnt out when I was 25. It SUCKS. Deadlines accompanied by panic attacks. 20 smoke breaks a day. I understand. Just do what you can to take that job for what it really is...a paycheck. It doesn't define who you are. Find something to look forward to at the end of the day. Meditation is great, I guess, if it's something you enjoy. Doesn't sound like it to me.

that's a smart move, but I still maintain about not going on medicines. it's not like you're on one day, off the other. if you go on SSRI's, amphetamines or similar, you'll spend twice as long quitting the drugs and recovering and hoping your brain isn't permanently fucked up than the time you spent on them.

no joke. don't trust your mental well-being to "physicians" who get paid loads of money just to say they think that you'd be good on one of their research chemicals that they don't even truly know the effects of.

one way they test antidepressants is by putting a mouse in a beaker of water. they watch how long he will struggle to stay afloat, and after the mouse stops fighting they give him a dose of a drug. they consider a "good antidepressant" one that allows him to fight for a longer period of time.

judging by the severe lack of true intelligence in that test, I'd assume that your best possible improvement after starting an SSRI would be that you could drown for longer in a body of water before you die.

so unless that's one of your job descriptions, avoid that shit like the plague!

and good luck.

I never gave bad advice.  I merely said that it's better to be healthy and not have a job than to have a job and be unhealthy.  I never included the option of "have a good job and be healthy" because that didn't seem to be an option yet in her case.

beyond that, I don't agree that money equates to happiness, at all or ever.  money can lead you to a well which could contain happiness if you know how to procure the happiness in a healthy way, but it will never bring it.  unless you are truly happy and healthy in yourself, you will always require addictions of all different sorts to keep you satisfied.

in conclusion, the job itself, again, is not NEARLY as important as the health.  health first, job later.  always.

IME, doctors are fucking quacks. They get huge paychecks for prescribing these drugs, that most of the time don't work anyway.

Why do you need a doctor to give you a pill? Any amount of stress in m life can be treated with a dose of mushrooms once a month to once every three months, depending on the situation.

Mushrooms changed my life in so many ways. Stress, anxiety, depression are non existant in my life where they were a rather large part before I started using mushrooms as medicine.

Why not try hollistic medicine, meditation, anything before you get prescribed to drugs that really don't work that well....not to mention the side effects.

The bad part of that analogy is his job is not going to put him a glass of water and require him to fight or drown. They're going to put him in stressful situations, and how he handles those responsibilities (with a clear head and tactical instincts) will be the test of his character. and it is true what they say. A fighter fights...always.

There ARE people who take medication and find a way to use it to improve themselves. Just like pot, just like shrooms, just like any other substance, if abused, it can be harmful. However, that doesn't mean that it can't be used for good either. I tell you, if you can take something to help with those panic attacks, then that's a HUGE help in the day. Instead of pacing around the bathroom or the sidewalk freaking out cause it's all too much, you can use that time to get your task at hand done so you can go home and smoke a bowl while getting a blowjob.

or if you're not a guy, which I just realized you might not be, then any time of oral copulation can be pleasing. Or Shopping. Please don't focus on that part. Just find a way to relax at the end of every day. You will wake up with a better outlook.

I'm having the same problem. You need to do what I need to do. And that's find another job.

I've worked other jobs before that I didn't like, but none of them stressed me out like this one does. I get so rushed and frustrated and angry at work that I can literally feel my heart pounding and the blood rushing through my body at high speeds and all I want to do is throw things that break. If it weren't for the carpal tunnel problems I was getting from working with dough all day long, I'd probably go back to making pizza, even though it is definitely a step down as far as careers are concerned. Currently I am keeping my options open for pretty much anything so I can quit the hellhole that I am currently stuck in.

Good luck to you, I'll try to hang in there if you will too...

A fighter doesn't always fight. That's called stupidity. Read the Art of War, a fighter will only fight when the conditions support a positive victory. Leaving the scene of war is not being a coward if you know what you are doing. Fighting to the death in SS's case would mean being miserable and torturing herself until either she collapsed or the company fired her. Neither of which are a better choice than leaving the bad situation in the first place.

And I still don't agree about medicines. taking benzos like xanax help in serious situations, but NOT on a daily basis. see my last post regarding addictions to things like SSRI's and Dexedrine and imagine an even WORSE drug, one that can kill you from withdrawal alone. yes, that's benzo withdrawal.

the job IS the problem, from what I can tell. there's no reason to put up with sour bullshit when you can get the hell out of there and find another job that suits you better. going on medicines also requires going to doctor's, requires all that extra money and effort, requires withdrawal, etc ... it's a whole new job to add to the stress she's already in.

it's not worth it. I almost made it a year at my last job and was laid-off on Tuesday, 10 days under a year. who cares? I've never felt better, having some time (and reserve money in the bank) to figure out what I want to really do with my life and my health and happiness.

there's NOTHING in life worth stressing that bad over that you need a whole new addiction (or multiple) just to make it go away.

Bro, I hate to say it but you need to join the real world, cause you seem off in fantasyland. I don't need to read the Art of War, I choose to write my own book on battling this world. She has a good job, she just can't handle the stress right now. There is a difference. The satisfaction of beating this thing and finding a way to get her job done without losing her mind and self is going to be far greater than the feeling of failure that will accompany quitting.

The real world is stressful, my man. If you want to quit your job and move out to the desert and live off the land, well that's your way of dealing with life. If you take every task put in front of you and quit because it's too hard, then you will be doing that for the rest of your days. I choose to fight.

You don't know that this doc will prescribe her benzos. You don't know what he will prescribe. He's the doctor and you're a guy who took obviously took medication before and had a bad experience. Sucks for you.

does she really have a "good job" if it is causing her that much stress that she thinks she needs to go to a doctor to get "crazy pills"? define what a "good job" is first and then we can talk about whether her job is "good". if you notice, a few posts up it says she is currently looking for another job. how good can this job be, then? she's obviously at the end of her rope, the last thing she needs is a huge corporation dragging her down to the sea bed.

the "satisfaction of beating something" and "feelings of failure" are ego-tricks. victory and failure are subjective, and in the heart of the beholder. in my opinion, being victorious over something which doesn't contribute to your life is not a true victory. showing you can "survive" in a random company is not the same as taking the bull by the horns and getting the job you WANT at a company you would LIKE to work at. in my opinion, the people who have failed are those who choose to stick with a lifestyle that causes themselves pain because they think there's nothing better in life. you may say I'm in fantasyland, but at least some of us dreamers will make something of life and not let it keel-haul us to our very end.

the real world IS stressful, but it is not in our genuine nature to feel as anxious and as sick as we usually do. I never said I quit my job to go be a nomad, nor did I say I quit because it's too hard. quite the contrary! my job was not nearly challenging enough, and also not my dream. it was a career job, something that earned me good money and gave me a feeling of being in an "in-group". suffice to say that I wasn't satisfied with these illusions of happiness and will find my true calling in another career -- holistic healing/acupuncture.

I didn't quit, I was laid-off, although it was of my own accord. I stopped showing up because I just frankly didn't care and was getting stomach problems from the anxiety caused by staying somewhere I wasn't happy, and had no challenge. I ended up drinking and smoking and drugging away my nights because I was so upset with not living my dream. being complacent with safety, rather than fed up and willing to risk all for what REALLY matters. basically, I lived the life of so many people age 30+, and realized i'd RATHER BE DEAD. I'm too smart for these bullshit jobs, and I could care less if anybody agreed.

you may not need to read the Art of War ... I've only barely perused it ... but basically, you can go on fighting every fight in your life just to say you're a "fighter", only to find yourself finaly destroyed by the one fight you never thought would take you down ...

or you can go pick your battles and not need to challenge everything, and ensure your survival and existence through genuine understanding, thought and action, rather than blind fighting against reality. being humble and understood is ultimately more beneficial than feeling like a "fighter". a word can only mean so much, but a true state of being is undefinable.

you're right about one thing -- I don't know what her doctor will prescribe her. but I do know one thing -- no matter what it is, it is just another illusion, and will further detour her real path ... the real health we seek as humans is already within our bodies and minds, not in some "magical bullet" given to you by doctors. unfortunately, the real health we seek also requires discipline, listening inwards, and actual application of responsible thought. most people are lazy though, and this is why the "magical pills" exist in the first place. who wants to do work when a pill will supposedly do it for you?
