brave new world is a place most of "us" would rather not be living... but i suspect most of us would find much about the island of pala to cherish (and much to worry about per neighboring island of rendnang (sp? been a while, and my copy/copies are gone to the 6 directions ...) and the corrupting influences of big oil, big military, and big religion...)
the death scene is truly touching, the selections from the old rajah's _the book of what's what_ are tantalizing, the attitude of the palanese towards body, mind, and spirit are amazingly commonsensical and transcendent at the same time, and the trip sequence of the brit "castaway" is eerily familiar ... and the roar of military vehicles and the bursts of gunfire at the end are heartbreakingly inevitable...
and we end as we began... attention, karuna, attention...
read this book !!! !!! !!!

After reading Perrenial Philosophy, The Doors of Perception and Heaven and Hell, and a Brave New World back to back I have had enough of Huxley for a while.
I'll keep it in mind for the next time he comes around though.
