It did update, it's just cached for you. Open http://www.shroomery.org/forums/avatars/164443.gif and shift-reload, that should do the trick.

Ooh I see what you're saying. Unfortunately transparency isn't preserved when resizing an image. Without an alpha transparency channel, there's no good way to resize an image with antialiasing unless it has a solid background. The alternative would be to make all the mini-avatars PNG format, in which case they'd require a Javascript hack for IE and wouldn't display properly in anything before IE 5.5. So unfortunately it isn't a simple fix, sorry about that.
