FIRST TRAPPIST BEER
    #6644627 -

my first Trappist beer...for those of you that don't know, a Trappist beer is a beer brewed by monks...
there are only 7 Trappist breweries in the world, and i found a few bottles at the local likka sto'...

9.5%...1pint 9.4oz lil pricey but way worth it...not all Trappists can be imported in the US...
the beer brewed at the ST.ABBEY can only be bought at the doors, with an appointment
listing details as precise as the license plate # of the car being used in the pickup...BUT this beer is fantastic,
I'm on my 2nd glass (today) of my 2nd bottle (ever) and its great, drank it kinda warm the first time...
this time cold...this stuff is POTENT...big on caramel flavor too...dig it....pizzle

So, is it like an ale, or what? It looks sort of like an ale, or a light lager.

EDIT--I see the triple ale on the label, now.

Well, it says "ale" right on the bottle in the first pic.

its a thick ale with a caramel aftertaste, not very carbonated but still fizzy...i dont enjoy most ales...they make a dubel and a tripel and this is the tripel...my bro said the dubbel sucked but ive yet to try it...they sell it at the same store but only in 12oz bottles without the cork&cap...there's a distributer near me, I'm thinking of ordering from them...

Aaah the pride of my country!

Our beers!

Westmalle is definitly ok but if you can get your hands on this one I'd definitly try this one:
La Chouffe! Best beer ever imho, well for the ones I've already tried, we have so many to be honoust (over a 1000 varieties!)

Stout? Stout uses dark roasted malts.

Definitely unfiltered though.

I see a few Abby's in the US. But i scoff at them and say that they aren't the real deal.....

My friend brought me this back from Amsterdam. I haven't drank it yet because I want to enjoy it with them, but haven't seem them for a while.

I was never a big beer guy but they knew if anything, I could appreciate this.

4.8% vol.

The funniest part of the bottle is at the neck there is a scratch and sniff label. I have never been able to smell anything. Might have been scratched dry.

Tripel Westmalle! Ooh thats a fine beer you got there. Also, La Chouffe was mentioned, very good also. These two are among my personal favorites for serious beer.

Take a Quadrupel it's even stronger than the tripel

If you want strong why not everclear

Quadrupel is stronger, yes, but with Trappist taste takes precedence over high. I find Tripel Westmalle to be just right. The alcohol has a strong presence in the flavor but doesn't dominate it like in Quadrupel.
To me, a Tripel tastes better than a Dubbel or a Quadrupel.

No it's the concentration of fermentable sugars in the 'wort' solution to be fermented. To a certain extend that is. That's why there are no wines above a certain alc. concentration e.i. 15%. If you want to have stronger drinks then you need to go and destil. I don't find a Quadrupel tasting like Ethanol at all if it's a good bodied beer it shouldn't i think. To each it's own!
