why stoned?

I can understand being blazed, high, wrecked etc etc..

but stoned? Where did that come from?

Maybe its because when you're really blazed its you're grounded like a stone .. ?

Maybe because when you get really baked, you turn into a stone that just looks at the Shroomery all day:shrug:

I don't know the historical significance of "stoned" though.

I always thought "tripping" was kind of a weird way to reference tripping, but eh, words are just words.

I believe 'stoned' comes from the old term 'stone drunk'.

I thought 'tripping' came from tryptamine?

edit: Also I thought "tripping" was short for trip. Like you're taking a trip (leaving your normal reality for a little bit :P).

I assumed tripping came from the fact that you go on a voyage in your mind.. a trip from reality :grin:...

but stoned isn't quite as obvious

I would guess that it come from being petrified.

Some people just get locked up in a petrified stupor when they toke. Like getting stuck sitting on a couch or something.

Just a guess, sounds right, mebbe.

Maybe it came from Europe, they still weigh things in "stone" right?  I forget the ratio from Stone to pounds, maybe I can find it.
