"tonsil stones"

those little white bumps.. bits of food and basteria that build up in the back of your throat sometimes, you know? they're damn near impossible to shake free and they smell like a dead rotting moose ass. sometimes they just appear out of nowhere...what the fuck? it's the most annoying feeling in the world, the taste in my mouth makes me want to puke, and i can't get the fucking thing out! anyone got any tips on how to get these things out, other than a tonsilectomy? i've pretty much given up on gargling, q-tips, and trying to scrape it out with a toothbrush.  :frown: This one is particularly stuborn and it's driving me insane!

Usually I just kinda squeeze them out with my index finger. It'll make you gag the first few times. Be sure to wash your hands before and after. Smells worse than shit.

i hate them. gross and annoying.
i have no good advice on how to get rid of them. a couple of days and they usually fall off.

ive found the best thing is not to get them in the first place. i mostly get them when i eat french fries but a lot of nuts can do it too.
i stopped eating fries and i dont really get them anymore. plus i eat better.
try it and see if it works for you.

did you gargle with warm salt water?

I either do that or just keep reaching in there until I get them. I hack up a lot of mucus and phlegm in the mornings (allergies, but smoking bud definitely doesn't help) and sometimes they come up with that and sometimes I can just hack enough until they come up.

woah...weird...i've never even heard of these. but, then again, i had my tonsils removed when i was 6.

well i did manage to get most of it out after a couple hours of trying. now my throat is all raw and scratcy from scraping with a tooth brush...but at least the remaining stone is for the most part unnoticable and it doesn't smell quite so horrible. i'm hoping that will just drop out on it's own eventually since i can't seem to get it out. they're such a pain in the ass though. they get in your tonsil crypts and stick right in there. i only seem to really get them during the fall and winter, probably because of excess mucus and post nasal drip(i've got chronic broncittis) that's what i was reading anyway. i also was reading that if you have your tonsils removed the stones don't come back for the most part, but getting your tonsils removed at my age is risky and also it's not to healthy since the tonsils are there for a a reason. they're one of your many shields for things on the way down to you lungs. i  :heart: the internet. At any rate, i think i'll call my cousin who is a dentist and see what he says, because i really hate having bad breath.

I use to get tonsil stones back when I had moderate to severe allergies. Over the years, most of my allergies have faded away. The tonsil stones went away at the same rate that my allergies did.

i actually found that website. it's where most of my info is coming from. i might give that a try, but first i'm going to call my cousin who is a dentist and see what he recommends. i do think i'll buy one of those water sprayer things in the meantime though...forget what they're called.

When I get them, I usually just use my pinkie finger to either squeeze or knock them out.  My throat is desensitized after about 1hr or so of messing with it the first time I encountered them.  Only takes a couple seconds to dislodge them now.

On another note, that stuff is rank as hell.  There isn't much else that smells as terrible as those little guys do.  God damn.

i got my tonsils out and i dont get them anymore. it's really nice. once i hocked a loogie and there was a huge clump of them. it was really gross. i didn't even know they were back there!
