Fisheye's and macro's
    #6369829 - 12/14/06 10:41 AM (17 years, 3 months ago)

I am new to photography, and have a Pentax K1000 that will be out of the repair shop soon. Im looking into getting a new lense, and this is where I need the help. Is a Fisheye and Macro lens the same thing? Also, does anyone recommend any books for a beginner?

Fisheye gives the fisheye effect, with a wide field of view.

Macro is for super close up shots, as far as I know.

Go with the 50 or 80mm macro lenses. The larger ones are too bulky and in the end you just hate it when you get out in the field. (I've got a 180mm macro for my Pentax).

I haven't used the fisheyes yet, they're expensive.

Fisheye's are only around $50 for the Pentax K.

I don't see fisheye lenses used very often, and when they are it's almost always an aesthetic choice rather than being necessitated by anything. (and honestly the result is cheezy nearly half of the time)

A macro lens is a good thing to have for extreme close-up photography (such as photographing insects, plants, etc.), so if I had to choose between the two I'd go for a macro lens.

Tell ya what, when I was a younger one, I NEVER wouldve thought "that piece o crap" in the closet was worth even looking at. Now I know how badass of a camera is, even at 30+ years old. People STILL pay around $130 for this camera. Its gonna be exclusively for macro, hence the questions.
Cant wait to get it back outta repair.
