my b-day gift // is it good??

i listed this in the science section and no responce so i will put it here and see if anybody knows more than me.i never buy anything for my self and i work 70 hours a week . so this year i said to my wife get me something i really want for my birthday.i have always wanted a quad or a laptop so it was a toss
up
between a quad and a laptop. but right now i am in the process of building my 14x16 shead so she said the quad comes at tax time.and i need a new cpu. so she looked around and this is what she got
me



i use to know a bunch about cpu's but not so much now.

Looks like a very nice device, definitely will suit your needs. Those HP laptops are pretty good IME, I always stick with either Toshiba or HP.

With laptops I *HIGHLY* suggest you use google and other such search engines and search for the exact model you are looking at, look for overheating problems, design failures etc.

So far Most 'uber' equipped laptops that somehow are not 4 grand all seem to have some sort of crashing/heat problem or another from lack of good design.

Be wary! Laptops are viscious if you get a shitty one! Or, buy it at cosco so you can return it no hassle.

this is a customs design lap top and it was not very cheap at all.

i think it was like 1800-2000 dollars after the 100 dollars rebate.

i will do a search for the overheating and problems.

i am not a gamer i just like to prints pictures and surf the web and play a game or 2 but they are old ones.

Mostly the concern is the graphics card in it is really nice for a laptop (uber = high end, cool, awsome, BIG, LARGE, etc) and those kind of cards generate a lot of heat, especially if you do end up gaming on it.

That, with a CPU, hard drive and everything else crammed in there is where the problems lie.

Definately do a lot of searching for that model and reviews, along with customer complaints, crashing problems, support services, etc.

GET A WARRENTY.

(Or buy from coscto. :laugh: )

i just did a search and i found that a while back one they had a battery problem . it was overheating. but they recaled them a few years ago and replaced them. i am assuming that they fixed the problem sence then and if they didnt they will replace it.

i also found"" HP has received no reports of overheating in any HP notebook "" i am going to search more though.. like i said i really dont play games but i just wanted it there just in case i wanted to start.

If you're worried about overheating, best thing you can do is get a laptop that is not as 'equipped' as is this one. Get one with a standard graphics card and a 5400rpm disk. Of course, the device will be noticeably slower then (especially due to the slower hdd) but you needn't worry much about the overheating issue.

Btw, that's not something I'd worry much about anymore anyway. A couple of years ago, things were really bad. There were laptops where you'd put a CD in and it would come out all deformed. Placing a running laptop on your lap was a bad idea if you wanted to stay clear of second degree burns. However, things have changed for the better with most laptops having proper cooling systems and power saving schemes.

a laptop is alot better then that quad core shit. There isnt really even any need for it now. My single core does everything better then i need with a decent video card. Il get a multiple core in like 2 years, when they will be REALLY cheap and really good. Now, i can get a single core that is Really ch eep and Really good.

its just a waste of money.

go on vacation or something istead

UBER is a swedish or german or one of the european languages for "SUPER".

The laptop looks fine. But if you plan on carrying it around and traveling with it, it sounds like beast to carry.
