The Columbia Cookbook

Although her book did include compelling recipes for scrapple, ox cheek, and baked calf's head and tips for the prepration of raccoon, possum, snipe, plovers, and blackbirds (for blackbird pie)...it was more than just a cookbook.

Hollingsworth offered sage medical advice - ...Among a list of measures effective for inducing vomiting, she included: "Injections of tobacco into the anus through a pipe stem."

The wife was to set the tenor of the day. "The breakfast table should not be a bulletin board for the curing of horrible dreams and depressing symptoms, but the place where a bright key-note of the day is struck."

No, it's something mentioned in the book "The Devil in the White City."

I'm reading so much lately. I pick up as many merch shifts as I can. It's a great trade off...I get paid 50-75 dollars to sell the band's merchandise, I get to hear the music from a great spot, and I can tune it out pretty easily and get a ton of reading done. And I get to meet lots of interesting people, and a lot of drunken douchebags too.

I love Auster. :inlove:

Have you read Moon Palace? Or Mr. Vertigo?

yup both, i liked Moon Palace better.
it's actualy one of my favourit books i think, i loved Music of Chance as well...

i still have some books of his i'd like to read though (i should buy a copy of Music of Chance, i read it in hebrew a long time ago... yuch :smirk: i really should read it in english again!)

i can't read another auster for a while though... having gone through this one and The Invention of Solitude recently (much too depressing for my current vibe but i've read them all the same)

the first auster book i bought was "true tales of american life" somehow thinking it was "the new york trilogy" :smirk:
i enjoyed that alot though, did you read it? some of those stories come up to me sometimes, there was something about that book it was like sitting with a close friend you haven't seen for years and catching up
