An Idea for Uploaded Files

Why not have a list of uploaded files and the ability to put them back into posts again and again, similar to the way pictures are handled? That way, with a couple of clicks you could put them into a post, and you could you wouldn't have to re-upload a file you already uploaded previously. And it would no doubt save the Shroomery server space as well.

I don't see what RIAA would have to do with this...
The suggestion(=each user has a list of the files they uploaded) is viable and I will implement it when time permits.

I dunno I think it's a bad idea... right now we don't have to be hardasses about people uploaded copyrighted material because it quickly vanishes into the list of old posts. It's not a big part of the BB, it's not used by many people, and it doesn't draw a lot of attention. If we had a directory of uploaded files which we were hosting, I think it would make us look more like a warez site. Due to the nature of the Shroomery we do have to be careful about obeying the letter of the law, and I think this might be pushing it.

I see your point. I didn't think of that either. Plus, as Jim implied, the RIAA is up in everyone's ass nowadays it seems. They could shut down the Shroomery pronto, and give us a bunch of unfavorable publicity, which I don't need to mention we don't need.

What I wanted to implement is that every user has a list of his uploaded files, so he can post a link to the file again at a later time if he wishes.
Kinda like MyPictures, just with files.

p.p.s
i think there may be something flawed with the script though... it only shows the first uploaded file from the thread and leaves the others out? (at least that's what it's done with my latest upload so you may wanna check it out)

i dunno... it's just that i've posted  these two and only the first one shows on the list :shrug:

i suspect it's the same deal with other threads although i didn't actualy check... (but i have a good feeling since it seems like my list is a little short)

ok, it seems that the file is there, but the size is not determined correctly....I will take a look at that.

now that you mention it Anno, that happnes to a lot of my uploads... it will say 0 bytes, but it will still play...

yup it's a common thing...
it never bothered me befor since it happens so often and i just assume it's there :shrug:

maybe it checks the size befor the actual upload and then it's not exectly the same so it puts it down as 0? maybe it should run a size check after or something? (just a guess)

also come to think about it... when trying to upload a bigger file then possible it just hangs for a long time insted of saying it can't upload such a big file and stopping!

the progress box dosn't come up (that's usualy when i remember it might be bigger then allowed :smirk:)
