She's actually really low key, not a lot of energy, and doesn't bark at all.  And she's not protective either.  Like I said, she pretty much thinks she's a person.  My boyfriend's sister adopted her from a high kill shelter down south after seeing her picture online and deciding she had to have her.  She had definitely been abused.  When she first got her, she was terrified of everyone and everything, and wouldn't even look at people, she'd just hide in the corner and shake.  After a lot of patience and consistency and love, she's a great dog.  A little weird, but very well trained and well socialized, and not afraid of her own shadow anymore.  I would love to know what kind of dog she is for sure...I think a lot of the guesses in this thread are pretty dead-on, inclusing the "Lassie" breed, and maybe some husky/corgi/shepard mixed in.  She's got a sort of cylinder type body, and her legs are a big short in proportion to the rest of her.  And she's got these crazy tufts of her that stick out of her ears and between her toes. 

Yarry, we bring Lucy to the beach a lot, and yes, she could play fetch all day for like a week and be perfectly content with that.  It's odd though, she LOVES water on her own terms, but does not like to be sprayed with the hose, and doesn't like the sprinkler (although we only tried that once).  She's the best dog ever.  SO smart, so loyal, and full of love.  She's amazingly easy to train.  The latest thing we've gotten her to do is "clean up your toys".  She'll scatter her dozens of toys around the house but when we say that, she'll go get them one by one and put them in a laundry basket    And then of course promptly empty it again to play with them all, but hey, it's the effort that counts, right?? 

Anyways, thanks to everyone for the guesses/compliments.  If anyone else has any, I'm going to be passing the info along to Phoebe's owner when she gets back from Europe as to what breeds she might be.
