So I have this recurring dream...
    #5812333 - 07/02/06 12:15 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

...where I'm walking around and suddenly see gigantic mushrooms everywhere I look. I'm talking mushrooms as tall as me or with caps that you could hide under if a storm popped up. Well, after all of the rain the past few weeks, I went for a hunt and had to continually convince myself that I was awake. There was rarely a point in my hike where there wasn't some type of mushroom in my field of vision.

The first thing I saw was this giant amanita. There were tons of them along with caesars and destroying angels, all in the same field.

Now that mushroom is pretty big, about 5-6 inches tall as you can see from the field guide ruler in the background. But then after taking this picture, I look a few yards ahead and there's an even bigger one.

This sucker was 6-7 inches tall, and the cap had a 6 inch diameter. Pretty much like a small plate. And I found it with that pine needle skewering it.

Then I found a bunch of caeser's amanitas. From what I understand, the ones in north america might actually belong to a different species (or species complex) than the ones in Europe. They also seem to be less reliably edibe in North America, with a lot of people getting digestive trouble from them.

You can really see the characteristic volva on that mushroom (how's that for shroomery porn!).

From one extreme to another, right after leaving the field of giant amanitas, I found a tree with what looked like white mold growing at its base. Looking at it closer I realized that this mold was actually thousands of tiny mushrooms. I think they are probably some type of tiny coprinus. For reference, these mushies were about as long as a finger nail!

Then I came across this, which is either Strobilomyces confusus, the 'confusing bolete,' or Strobilomyces floccopus, the 'old man of the woods.' Both of these are edible boletes. I think confusus because the warts on the cap are not as shaggy as in floccopus. The best way to differentiate is to look at the flesh, confusus bruises a reddish hue whereas floccopus bruises more darkly.

Then I found a ton of boletes. They are everywhere right now, and I know folks have been posting pictures. I think Boletus campestris due to the coloring, bruising, and bell-shaped cap. But it could be anything in the Boletus bicolor complex. The blue-green bruising occurs incredibly quickly after even a slight touch on the spongy underside.

Enjoy!

Sounds like the notorious mushroom fever.... It hits our youth generally around the age of 19 and excalates up to symptoms such as infactuation and even obsession with fungus. Drink lots of water and get plenty of rest.

It usually dies down around age 26 but in rare cases such as exhibited in mjshroomer symptoms can persist indefinitely.

I was chased by haitians in the main city charlotte amalie when my girlfriend and I got some cocaine for free in a bar and mixed it with alcohol, to form a stronger drug. With such confidence at 2am, we walked the 4-5 or so miles down to the beach where the african slaves lie like lions waiting on tourist prey.

The war isen't on drugs... the war is on the causes that influence people to abuse drugs. drug-abuse is a by-product of the system and much like radioactive waste occurs from utilizing nuclear power, drug addicts with drug-problems will need to be properly disposed of, like the decaying radioactive waste produced from nuclear energy. -i2ancid

Beautiful amanitas!
Isn't life wonderful when you can just walk around and find mushrooms of all sorts?

As for the obsession, it's actually been working backwards for me. When I was younger, I would never eat mushrooms ('course lucy was readily available), but ever since an Allman Bros. concert 3 yrs. ago, I've been in love, and at age 38 I am absolutely obsessed with mushrooms.
Yes, I dream about them :crazy2:

peace

I enjoy a gram to a gram and a half at bed time on occasion..
I have had some killer semi conscious dreams..
When I dream about Mushrooms im always Hunting. I guess its for the fact that I have no stress what so ever while on Mushroom hunts.

I also find that when I stop smoking MJ I dream with fantastic vividness and I remember most my good heavy dreams for most the day..

I do enjoy them flying dreams and I lone for the day I fly to the Hunting spot

God Lou you and I are the old Farts eh?
