And then you got Al GOre with his global warming 'movie'....

Well, global warming (whether man made or not, just to be fair) kinda is a bigger threat than terrorism.

Terrorism = thousands of people dead

Global Warming = everybody dies

So, yeah.

Too bad we need a former president to state the obvious. It's not just global warming: fatty and high sugar foods, automobiles, dog bites, large bodies of water... pretty much everything is a bigger threat than terrorism (here in the US). You gotta hand it to the terrorists they do a good job of marketing. But of course that's kind of the point of terror tactics in the first place.

I am not dis counting global warming, though I dont see an ice burg bearing down on us, but yeah it is a problem  :grin:


terrorism on the other hand is on our door step, and is an immediate problem.


But neither of this was my point.


It's that there gearing up the for the presidential election and they want this effort on terrorism to be a failure, or make it irrelvent.


Just for political gains in the polls.

The War on Terror has failed, my friend. Be that as it may, statistically you are far, far more likely to die in an auto accident than in a terrorist attack. That actual threat has been blown way out of proportion.

On the other hand, global warming is quite a scary prospect. Of course, it's possible we could tackle both problems by developing sugar (NOT corn) ethanol fuel. But that won't happen because the corn lobby is bigger than the sugar lobby.

I'm predicting business as usual in 2008.

the war on terror itself has been a political invention for 'the polls'. notice we havent had any color coded threa levels since the presidental election; but i'll bet we start seeing them as the mid-terms get closer, prolly by july.

Why does the US stick to the same few people for possible condidates? It's like some elect club. The US makes the rules on who can run and how the elections happen, so you could make it so that you could have someone decent lead the place. I don't get it, it seems everyone plays helpless so the same group never has to give up its power.

Well, obviously America's contribution to global warming stems from greed.
I have this theory that our "rich boys' club" candidate selection arises from our expectations from life.
If you watch the movie "O Brother Where Art Thou" you can see what I mean: watch the scene where the guy named Hogswallop goes to see his cousin.
The cousin sits there in his living room in a that shitty house with all the garbage in the yard, and what does he have?
Little plush easy chair, little radio, little lamp and carpet situation.
But no food except rotten horsemeat.
At the point that I watched that movie, that scene symbolized, to me at least, our USA idea of what success means.
We base "success," I believe, on what your late 1880s cattle baron or Wall Street gentry had.
That means big transportation, big cuts of meat (way bigger than just satisfying hunger), house much much bigger than needed, and loads of big ugly jewelry.
And everything more ostentatious than necessary even to impress the next guy.
Think about what very rich Americanischers sport--excessive "bling" in the form of comically large rings and necklaces; limousines built from SUV's; huge, ugly mansions exactly like the one next door.
Go into our restaurants: the cuts of meat look bigger than your head.
They give us sandwiches so big you have to take half home in a box.
The whole middle class has SUV's where I live.
The traffic? Astronomical. Out of control. But people have to make their display known.
And I just think about those first limousines.
Who needs a really, really long car? Does it go faster?
Seat more people?
No, it looks impressive, like you have so much cash you could have afforded a forty-foot one--you just didn't want to.
Even though it has gotten completely unfeasable and impractical, we still have this deep-seated need to attain that gluttonous success that cattle and oil barons had in the 1880's... and we don't care if it kills starving babies or heats the Earth's atmosphere.
We just got to have it, Jack.

Interesting....I have seen O Brother Where Art Thou long time ago, and I have though about since, but mostly that is was a cool movie that I should see again and pay attention to...


again interesting post, I dont disagree but it verged on total abandonment of everything material. While that plays out good in a dream I dont think I could willing do that.


But I think that there will come a time when the choice is made for us, that will be out of our hands and only for us to react to it. That will be worse then what happened to set it all in motion.
