So let me get this straight, with patriot act they can spy on whoever they want right? Or was it to find terrorist? And if it is to find terrorist why were they spying on that dude who was stealing baby food? And if they are aloud to spy on who ever they want who's to say there not looking at me right now? Ive heard that they have a computer that listens for key words But what if i call my brother and tell him that i got some BOMB ass weed would that allow them to begin looking? Hmmm does anyone have a clue what its really for,and if you do can you tip me on it.

I'm pretty sure it is a conspiracy to outlaw tin foil. j/k Welcome to the shroomery.
To get on topic, I don't care how much they spy on me, as long as what they spy goes to the military and not to the police. I'm not a terrorist, so I have no fear of the military bashing down my door at 5:00am on a bogus drug bust because they confused my address with the next door neighbor's.

Nice to be here LOVE the sight by the by very useful and informative.
But the police was the one who used this act to catch some dude who was stealing baby food. I think the story goes the suspected him of stealing from a grosser they contact homeland security they get a warrant to spy and turn the info to the cops.

You need to see what the patriot act states.
Everything about the patriot act is NOT good for the public and its very broad in the way it targets "terrorists"
Just think about it for a second... There are no terrorists. They are imaginary people that are there to make people of the US afraid.
Are you aware the Tali ban were funded by the CIA?
There has always been people who want to harm others, maby of a specific religion or race, or even a country. They were always there... did we now just from 911 all of a sudden have TERRORISTS?!
It simply states in the patriot act that any violation of the law is an act of terrorism.
It is documented that the wiretaps used were not for "terrorists" but 30,000 Americans.
Did you know the patriot act was written (3,000 pages) and passed within hours, and that mostly all congress members never got to read it?
Bush openly stated that if the patriot act did not get passed (renewed) that he would use his powers as president illegally to force it to be passed.
*** Put simply any time the government says you need to give up your freedoms for security, its not good and its not American to do this to the public.

I don't believe the patriot act was a prerequisite for domestic spying.
same with gitmo.
I believe the justification for both stem from the war powers clause, no?

Oh, they did. Now they can just do it to anyone and everyone, but legally this time. Anyone can be a "domestic terrorist" under the broadness.
