How long should one dunk a casing, 12 hours?? Also, how long should my friend dunk cakes after their 4th flush, is this where it steps up to 24 hours?? Thanks!!!!

Dunk a casing, i've never heard of that. You might just want to mist the top layer, thats what they are there for, to give moisture support to the mycellium. 4 flushes without a dunk? Sure, give them a solid 24 hours but I wouldnt expect too many more mushrooms. If you have dunked, when? You might only need 12 hours or 16. 24 is a little overkill my cakes were sogging wet and it seemed to ruin the flush a little (instead of supporting it).

ahh, back in the day phrozen there were quite a few posts on the subject. dunking a casing is more or less like spraying with a ton of water (especially if you use a bottom layer). my cat has just taken her casing (after a flush or two) when it has pulled from the sides and is a nice solid brick, poured water (tap) until it started to float. placed a half pint with water in it on top of the casing so it sank. then about 6 hours later drained the excess water.

BTW those were rye casings (cased both with coir and 50/50).
peace, ar393
