A Phil Lesh new years <-for the heads->

me and pantsboy left for the show at about 4 we got to our hotel unpacked and then i ate some acid :tripping:
when we got to the lot i saw lots of smiling faces :grin: the crowd was a bit on the older side but thats to be expected with these home town gigs
in the lot me and pantsboy met psikooz and his brother we chilled out and smoked a few bowls while we waited for the doors to open, there was no shortage of anything in this lot, within 10 min of being there i was offered acid at leased 5 times. i was coming up pretty good now, iremember staring across the park at the huge golden dome of san fransisco city hall and just being in awh
around this time i met a very cool chick who had come all the way from new york for this show. we talked for a while then all headed in together. soon after we got in jhon mayor started, no i was damn surprised let me just say that. i dont care who he is anyone who is able to do what he did with a uitar is rad in my book :cool:
jhon gave one ripping face melter of a set then went backstage. finnaly it was phil time :jamming: i was getting a little board waiting around so pantsboy hooked me up with another hit of L brining the grantottal to 3 super yummy hits :whoa:
while we where waiting for the first set we met my freind nick who also ate a few hits we all then went to go find a good place to sit and watch. finnaly phil comes out
after a little fiddiling about they busted into not fade away.
that rolled into chinacat, and i could tell this was gonna be one hell of a show. the way they where playing was damn impressive. phil was taking lots pf risks, letting others hold the groove, then taking hold again and streching it the its limits.
scarlet was cookin, i was prating for a follow up fire but, alas not to be
next came sugaree. joan really strut her stuff on this one
and i mean that, she was actualy strutting the legth of the stage sining sugaree with the most heartfelt blusy lyrics i have ever heard :laugh:
so hot!
the set came to a smashing end with an electrifyed franklins tower. i was pumped
on cloud 9
then i take a look over at my frein nick, and hes lookin kinda bad. he haddent taken acid for a while befor this and kinda wasent fully prepared for what he was getting into, not to mention he was pretty fucking drunk. this combination made him violent and a general jerk off, as well as confused and potentialy dangerous. he wanted to leave the show, but he had taken the bus here and there was no way he could get it back. i either had to let him wonder into the crowd, where he would either wind up in jail or the trip tent, or let him leave the show, in wich case he would have definetly wound up in jail. my only real option was to walk him the 10 blocks back to my hotel so he could chill. this was no easy task with a head full of sunshine. first i had to convince a security woman to let me back in sice you are not alowed to go back in once you leave. once i did that me and nick started the long back, it was 11:30, half an hour till the second set started.
those where the longest 10 blocks of my lfe!
my freind was seriusly melting down on the streets of sf at 12 at night
screaming about lepricauns and raining blood and such :cool: :wtf:
anyway long story short i get him to the room give him a glass of water tell him to be carful, he huggs me and i leave :smile:
it is now 11:50
10min, 10 blocks
i sprinted like a madman, but it wa imposible. i was a block away at the stroke of midnight, i heard the whole city go wild.
i ran through the door and heard the first song of newyears
"SOMETIMES THE LIGHTS ALL SHINING ON MEEEEE!" truckin!
wooohooo i ran directly out onto the floor and started dancing :laugh:ance:
after a few more songs i went and found pantsboy back up on the balcony.
then finaly! FIRE! that put me over the edge
i existed only to heard that music, nothing else
this fire was especialy spacy, at one point they droped the entire groove flat then ryan kicked it all back in :laugh: sooooooo much energy, no words :smile:
another show highlight was the birdsong
that whole night all i wanted was a birdsong :laugh: and i got me a good one
after that they finished out the second set with yet another smashing go at not fade away :gd_icon:

the 3rd set started out as just an encore im pretty sure but the guys just kept going :birthday:
the final song, uncle johs band reprise was beyond sweet
the perfect mellow send of to a perfect show :laugh:
on the way ou of the show i met all the freinds i had made in the lot beforhand
the whole sceance was so freindly, so energetic :gd_icon:
im still enjoyin the good mood that show put me in

anyway that was my new years
i had a damn good time

Awesome. Just awesome. You're a damn good friend for looking after your buddy that way. Too bad he couldn't just listen to the music play.

Wish I could have been there. You and Pantsboy are some cool cats. Glad to have met you guys in person even though it was so brief.

What kinda blotter did you have out of curiosity?

yeah my buddy was fine. he just was kinda getting overwhelmed
too many lights, too many noises, too many people. he thought the whole show had erupted into a death orgy with all the hippis ripping eachother apart and fucking. the on set he did hear he loved :heart: :laugh:
once he got back to the hotel he just chilled out in bed and watched tv and drank water
hes tumy was hurting prett bad too, all that was in it was vadka and acid
he thanked me up and down all night fo waking him back, he felt bad i missed the count down. but making sure my freinds are safe is always a priority :smile:


as for the acid we took kc it was sweettarts i layed myself with some very nice liquid from here in the city :tripping:

Good story dude.  Glad the scene is still alive and you had a great time.  Sucks about your friend, but it's good that it turned out ok in the end.
