you've got to remember that herbal entheogens, especially those you use orally, are just like any other plant matter you eat. They contain nutrients which are attractive to common bacteria and decomposers. If you left a salad out for a month, you'd deeply regret eating it. The same often applies to this sort of thing. The exception is substances which contain quinoid or antibiotic chemicals that are potent to some degree... that sort of substance tends to keep a lot better. Entirely exempt from this rule is anything which has been properly fermented into a strong alcohol. That wouldnt grow stuff in it.

It's not wise to eat something a month old that hasnt been refrigerated. I wont even leave san pedro tea out for more than a few hours without either refrigerating or freezing it. Without preservatives, things like that are prone to spoil fast.

If you managed to ferment it, it might keep... but I don't know how that would effect the ayahuasca's usefulness. Were I you I'd just freeze it until needed, or hell... just make it fresh.

You could probley do an acid base extraction on it.. Im sure the solvents would kill anything alive in their.

the solvents would most likely kill microorganisms, indeed. The problem is that some of the kind of organisms that start to grow in old food products produce toxins in the process, which can still make you sick after the organisms are dead.

If you can extract the desired chemicals and leave the rest of the organic nastyness behind... I'd say go for it though. Nobody wants to waste a chance at a good trip. Just be careful, nobody wants you to have to get sick or puke up a lung :tongue2:

Do you guys think that mimosa hostillis sitting in a very acidic solution(HCL acid) at room temperature for well over a month would still be of any use?

I had planned on finishing the extraction, but I never got around to it.

I'm wondering if it could still yield a usable product. No biggie if it's ruined.

I suspect you could extract a very good amount. There are some very effective extraction techniques that require 15 days of cold soaking.

i had left some huasca sitting out for a few weeks once, had that bacteria smell, but what i found to be facinating is that these white crystals started forming on the bottom of the glass. I have no idea what it actually was, could have been some sort of white bacteria colony, or maybe all the cube spores started an LC in my huasca.

I wouldnt drink old huasca. You should always freeze it if you dont plan on using it.

hmm but what if i boil it and filter out chuncks then boil more and add some alcohol to kill off any living stuff and if it did ferment then they wil be dead anyway right

Or you could just start a new batch and not take the risk of infecting or poisioning yourself with solvents and bacteria. It only takes a couple days to make.

And adding rubbing alcohol to your huasca isnt a smart idea.
