My monitor...
    #4636828 - 09/09/05 04:12 AM (11 years, 3 months ago)

It's blurry on the sides, do I need a new monitor or is there something I can do about it?

Try fiddling with any controls on it if you haven't done so yet, but my guess is you're screwed.

If this is a normal CRT (TV-like) monitor, is there anything magnetic / electronic around the sides that could be affecting it? Speakers maybe?
I've seen some cause effects like that if they're big and right beside the monitor. Those monitors are easily affected by magnetic interference. If there is anything there, trying moving them and see if that helps. If so it'll probably still be residually messed up, but it might just be useable enough that you won't need a new one.

Try degaussing the monitor (it's the upside down U with a / through it)

That's my favorite moniter effect

I had my moniter too near big speakers, and half of it turned a redish pink, and the Degauss deal worked fine, try it

If it is a CRT monitor & it is discolored around the sides of the screen, the main causes that I have seen with this symptom are magnetic interference from an external device such as unshielded speakers setting to close to it or a defective deguassing circuitry inside the monitor. You can try to degauss it by pressing the degauss button on your monitor if your monitor has that function otherwise you should take it to a repair shop to see if it could be repaired economically or just get a new one.

If it is out of focus around the sides of the screen, the main causes I have seen with this symptom are a CRT getting weak & going bad especially if it has any age to it or a bad flyback transformer. Either one of those are expensive repairs & you would be better off to get a new monitor.
