Shroomery Server Upgrades - Report Bugs Here! **Updated 9/8**
#4616773 - 09/03/05 03:36 PM (18 years, 4 months ago) |
|
|
Please read this entire thread for updates from administrators.
In an effort to keep the Shroomery running at top performance, we are in the process of performing some technical upgrades to the site. We are replacing our frontend (web) server and backend (database) server with identical Dell PowerEdge 2850s. For you tech geeks the new boxes have these specs:
2 x Intel Xeon 3.6GHz/2MB Cache/800MHz FSB/EM64T 4 GB DDR2 400MHz 4 x 36GB 15K RPM SCSI RAID Plus other server goodies like redundant power supplies and remote access cards.
We've also removed the bandwidth cap we had at our hosting provider (it was 3mbps/4mbps burstable) so broadband users should now be able to take full advantage of the site's increased performance.
Anyway Vamp's been doing a fantastic job on the hardware and today he got our frontend switched over. The new backend will also be coming online shortly. So far it seems like the migration is going great but if you notice any weird new bugs or problems please post about them here so we can get them resolved.
Thanks everyone for your patience while we work to improve the Shroomery!
Peace,
-Y

About half the time I load a new page I get this:
"Safari can?t open the page ?http://www.shroomery.org/forums/postlist.php/Cat/0/Board/Marketplace?.
The error was: ?bad server response? (NSURLErrorDomain:-1011)
Please choose Report Bug to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message."
But the page opens completely and everything seems to work fine, it's just this pop up window I get half the time. Not sure if this is shroomery or apple, cuz it only does it here at the shroomery.

Hitting "refresh" locks up my computer sometimes (50%). Also locks up when going back multiple pages on the "back" button.

Well, none of the stylesheets work for me still...its just all crappy black times new roman on a white background with no defined borders. Makes the forums a pain in the ass to read. I upgraded my firefox to the newest version, I cleared my cache, my cookies, my history, everything, and it still looks like this. Nice upgrade, guys.

I originally posted this in the "Ratings" thread by FooManShroom, but I'm not sure if it was related to his inquiry.
I recentyly went under my "Ratings by WoodsCall" section earlier to try to edit a rating I left another member, and nothing happened. The page that normally comes up to edit a rating did not appear. The same thing happened when I tried to delete it.
Just wondering if it's me or a bug

I can't log in. I have three computers I work from. This one had a cookie saved, so it works. My other two are set up to clear all cookies on exit. When I type my nym and pw, I get a "this page can not be displayed" error. This has only been happening the last day or two. RR

There's a bug with the accelerator we use on the 64bit platform. Its going to be removed tomorrow which should clear up the issue. The machine should not have any problems through the night but there's always a chance.
Stuff will return to normal just working out the normal bugs from a complete platform change.

Also, this thread is being displayed very wide in my browser. I don't see anything pushing the side of the page, so I'm assuming this is also a bug.(Wait, maybe it is the code that Wiccan posted. There is no return, and it's all on one line, so maybe the code tags make it stretch like that?)
BTW, what is eaccelerator.php?

Man, almost every time that I try to log int the Shroomery, it says Page Not Found. All of the other websites are working fine. It has made my computer crash a few times and freeze up the rest of the time. I was just wondering what's going on? Thanks for any help that you can offer.
And yes, my screens are all stretched out really far. If you post long posts, you should hit enter occasionally to keep from having to pan way across. It sucks ass.
Thanks.

Yep Vamp kicked some ass over the past week and we now have a beefy hardware setup which is truly worthy of the Shroomery. Hopefully this will keep things snappy and responsive whether we're serving 100 users or 1,000. Thanks everyone for your understanding while we made the transition!
Tonight I took some time to upgrade our bulletin board to the latest (and probably last ever) version. We'd been waiting for this release for some time. It addresses serious security vulnerabilities and bugs (including the annoying post tracking problem where the forum would forget which threads you'd seen). However, the sheer number of modifications we've made to the BB code makes upgrading a slow and complicated process and there are bound to be some bugs which didn't get caught in testing. Please be patient with any errors you encounter, just post about them here and I'll do my best to get things fixed ASAP.
Again, thanks everyone for your understanding. These upgrades are important and I promise they are worth the minor inconvenience!
Peace,
-Y

I'm a little slow on the uptake. I've lost 3 posts at the S&P when submitting. White page with 'This form is no longer valid' or something shows up, hitting the back button reveals a vanished post.

Yea its a bug/feature. It was something in the new BB version to secure sessions/variables. We are going to be taking it out but its a large project. We have them set to 6 hours but obviously its not working right. There's a lot of code to change.
If your going to invest a lot of time in a huge post its probably a good idea to always do a quick copy on it before you click submit. We will get it fixed.
