i've seen them once or twice - nice enough show, but nothing that really caught my ear that much. out of the 'jam-band' scene today, i'm mostly a fan of Yonder Mountain, STS9, and MMW (who aren't a jam-band, but have a similar fan base)

currently there are way more bands who i like to see live over string cheese. i don't mind listening to them on cd, but lately when it comes to a live performance they can't really compare ...

at wakarusa they seemed so disconnected and not really all there ... new monsoon and railroad earth blew me away there ... 2 of the hottest bands at the moment

can't forget ymsb and sts9 ... 2 great acts

but i agree with your point, a lot of people are too faded to realize cheese isn't all that great ... they have their moments but i don't think they're consistent

i must say that, my first cheese show this year was at the fillmore in denver and it was amazing ... sometimes they're on point, sometimes not

I'd rather listen to Dead tunes back at camp than hang around for that stuff.

I seen them at festivals and once by themselves and they just don't do anything for me. I don't really like the jamband scene much myself. I like WSP, YMSB and MMW maybe a few others but for the most part I could do with out that scene entirely. I'm just a music fan, the scene around the jamband community is a disease.

:frown: am i the only big sci fan! i toured with them for a couple years and had tons of fun! the family there is really beautiful and kind...  i had toured with phil and friends before that and could never go back... the dead scene just seemed so much darker to me after finding the cheese...

yes i agree there are "faded" kids on tour.. and it makes me sad.. it actually was one of the reasons i got off tour, just seeing kids get wasted night after night... but its like that on any tour it seems..

sci really has some beautiful family connected to it.. unlike any other ive seen... they have their ups and downs, as anyone will.. maybe they are going threw some changes right now, but they are magical, no doubt about that...

i really do love sts9 too.. a magical band with a beautiful family as well... truly connected to that divine spirit.. i guess everyone is entitled to their opinion, but someones gotta stick up for the cheese! i really owe them so much in the ways of happiness.. i learned so much from their music and their tour.. connected with so many beautiful people.. i actually met my wife at my first sci show! and i went to it with my dad and two sisters.. who also love the cheese!

hmm what else is there to say... but flowing negative vibes in anyones directions only creates negativity in your own life.. i dont go dissing the bands i dont like, why make a flame thread here? maybe we need to look at ourselves to see what we dont like in others..

just my couple cents.. :peace:

SCI is incredible, there is this energy about them, and a feeling  I always get while listening to their music...some people get it, some people don't, just like the Dead.

I wish I wouldve gotten to see sts9, but as many know they cancelled their wakarusa show.

I like string cheese however, get into their music, dance, groove out, and you'll like it too!

Yeah, I have had a lot of fun hanging out with some cheese heads, their is a lot of good people out there all over. I shouldn't dismiss the entire scene but their seems to be a ton of massive drug abuse everywhere I look, some people not getting along so good either. I guess I'm not really innocent either but I don't mix up the chemical cocktails some of the kids out there do. Dead related shows have by far my favorite vibe.

I like them, good tunes, I like bluegrassy jam stuff, as far as lot kids, there has been a decline in quality, but there some cool people still .

I love bluegrass and that's why I don't dig SCI, it's just to far removed from actual bluegrass. I can enjoy them if they are being played but I don't think you'll find me playing them on my own or going out of my way for a show.

I never said that.

but, drugs like lsd and pot go well with music
and people need someone to supply that when you're at the venue.

Bullshit. Every cheese show I've been to has been filled with really good people, most of them all about the music. People are too quick to jump to judgements these days. I was at a WSP show full of bad vibes......the whole scene had a "fiend" vibes to it, there were a few chill people there, but tons just out for the money. However, this one bad experience didn't have me bitching about the jamband scene and saying that WSP sucked.....it was one show and in a shitty neighborhood. There are so many different variables when it comes to the vibe you feel at a show. Having said this I'd like to mention that there is a feeling around SCI....very strong at the BSC that I get nowhere else and from no other band. They are something special for sure.

Adom, it's funny you should mention the drug abuse, IME hard drugs are widely used or accepted at cheese shows, at shows in the city people were going around selling zanies and coke and that's it (as far as hard drugs go).....and people were laughing about it, almost everyone there had no interest whatsoever, wherea the Dead scene has completely deteroriated. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I just saw Cheese for the first time this year at the BSC and I had to go the second day! I've since purchased two live CDs and think they are absolutely amazing.... I find them very creative and I love the way they blend different styles! Not to mention that everyone I met there was super awesome!!
