    #4291375 - 06/13/05 01:40 PM (18 years, 8 months ago)

Found these today on my way home. I'm not sure what sort of info I can give that the photos don't show. Does any one know if these are oyster mushroom? Thanks

Based on the pictures, definitely looks like them. Very nice find!

Appears to be them, but please refer to the forums sticky on how to give us proper ID information. It's very hard for us to work just off pictures. Take a spore print on black paper, if the print is white, they should be oysters.

Saute in butter, onions and garlic (and a little lemon juice if you like). Salt and pepper to taste.

yuck, too old to be good, you only want the fresh tiny ones
oysters have little flavor. they are very flavor absorbent tho, and spread better flavors like chanterelles or morels in preparations

Mitchnast, you sure are a bright ray of sunshine.   There are a few smaller ones there, how tiny should they be to be tasty?  When you say yuck, what do you mean, are they just tough or are the bad tasting?

I sauteed mine in virgin olive oil medium high heat after spicing them with garlic, Lawry's seasoning salt, and Mrs. Dash. Found a couple of nicely sized batches on a dead tree I had to cut down before it cut down my power going to the house...lol. They were awesome.
