My mum was on morphine today

And I sat with her holding her hand until she came down.

She seemed really scared about the whole experience and was getting itches, nausea and slight paranoia from it.

She kept on commenting about the shadow under the opposite bed and started crying saying that it kept on breathing and rippling.

I told her she'd be ok and that people paid good money for what she was experiencing and just to ride it out, not fight it and that the itches are common with opiates.

She seemed to calm down after that.

It was weird being the sitter for my own mother..

I remember w/ fondness my morphine drip in the hospital....the fondness doesnt extend to the broken back, shattered ribs, punctured lung or lacterated liver i had....

But really, I wasnt too worried about that stuff at the time. I had my big red button...Life was good....
