I need some input from you guys...
    #3966508 -

I have been going thru a lifestyle change and want advice on possible lung cleansing because i have quit smoking and want to know if there is anything is good for helping your lungs repair themselves?
I dont have any damage as far as my doctor can tell so thats a good thing...
Also i have quit drinking anything except an occasional red wine and have lost 12lbs mainly due to not drinking beer and cokes.
Wellbutrin has helped me so much as far as really stopping smoking and surprisingly took any desire to drink away also, its been a great drug for me and let me tell you i feel and think so much better.
Anyway any input about an aftercare for quitting smoking is appreciated....thanks guys

I'd recommend regular exercise, which would help a lot in getting back your lung capacity, as well as cleaning them out...

There are a couple general guidelines I can throw your way...
1) Definitely at least go for "fast-paced" walks in a park or around the neighborhood for long periods (but comfortable periods of time). Try first thing in the morning to jump start your breathing and after dinner so you don't slow down. Watch your diet too because over eating will have a minor impact on breathing and even posture.

-> eventually begin jogging a mile every 2 or 3 days or more.

2. There are herbs that can help but I'm in no position to recommend them for an issue like this. Check out "The Illustrated Guide to The Holistic Herbal" by Dr. David Hofmann. Get the silver edition. $17. WELL worth it for life.

3. If possible, hang out without smokers for awhile.

Good luck with this paw!

Ive been around smokers and it doesnt bother me and taking Wellbutrin makes it simple to stay quit...I started a new temp job in a lab type environment so there was no smoking anywhere so i cut way back which helped me a lot..I never go to bars anymore so its been easy to stay quit.
Im not gonna do any jogging right away (knee) but i do a lot of walking allready and will try to start early in the am like you suggested...I can smell cigs on people who pass me by now and it smells pretty bad...Ill try that book out thanks Enter

Do a search on mullen, a plant that is an expectorant and helps inflamed respritory systems. Sooths coughing to. The leaves are fuzzy and look simular to the lining or ur esoufogus and lungs too. It grows along roads and where ever fields have been left to nature for a couple years. I wouldnt pick the road side stuff though. This stuff will make you hack up some foul tasting tar. But thats a good thing. Just remember mullen.

My doctor suggested that I join a gym(I Did)and walk the track and treadmills until I bult myself up. It's the best thing i could of done for myself. It won't happen over night but if you stick to it you will see real results.

In my honest opinion, there are only two things that can help repair your lungs, time and exercise. I have always had lung problems even as a non smoker and I have always taken extreme amounts of vitamins and herbs. I used to always get bronchitis if I was outside in cold weather. It has been this way my entire life, until I started lifting weights and running. I haven't had bronchitis or pneumonia in five years now and I attribute that fully to the time I spend exercising.
