mpeg-2 to mpeg-4 conversion?
    #3948328 - 03/21/05 10:28 AM (19 years, 30 days ago)

I've tried to edit the audio of a DVD with no luck because the output is always mpeg-2, and Pro Tools doesn't cover that. Actually, Pro Tools uses Quicktime for playback and Quicktime doesn't read mpeg-2 without a $20 codec, it does read mpeg-4 though.

So my problem is that I can't find anything to convert the mpeg-2 to something which Quicktime can read. Any ideas?

The very nature of experience is ineffable; it transcends cognitive thought and intellectualized analysis. To be without experience is to be without an emotional knowledge of what the experience translates into. The desire for the understanding of what life is made of is the motivation that drives us all. Without it, in fear of the experiences what life can hold is among the greatest contradictions; to live in fear of death while not being alive.

Or anything which would convert a DVD to something Quicktime Player 6 can read (the "shareware" version of Quicktime).

I've done something like this before. Use DVDDecrypter to rip in ifo-stream mode to demux the streams. Next use Besweet and Besweet GUI to convert the ac3 audio to wave. Edit wave. Now use the TMPG-ac3 plugin to convert your edited wav back to ac3, use DVD-lab to reauthor. This process is long and sucky and dvdlab and the ac3 plugin are not freeware.

hmmm, that does sound like a complicated, but functional method. I think I'd rather pay the $20. I'm syncing up "Alice In Wonderland" with different music, ala "The Dark Side of Oz".

My main problem is, of course, that I wouldn't know what to do with it when it's finished, other than show people I know the video. I can't exactly distribute it without violating every copyright law.

I didn't have any luck in reading anything about conversion from 2 to 4, but I just might not have seen it.

No, since I've downloaded a bunch of other stuff with no luck. I'll look into it though. I generally like to avoid downloading and uninstalling stuff if I don't have to, but I also like to avoid spending $20 if I don't have even more.

that's funny cause the only reason I knew this was from when I made a "Dark side of oz" dvd, but it's definitely not fast or easy.
