Hydrometer Measurements
    #356757 - 07/18/01 11:40 AM (23 years, 6 months ago)

Using a fish tank with the bottom covered with perilite and verm, my bird put a second hydrometer in this tank to test the accuracy of the original. The original sits half way up the wall, the second one was sitting on the bottom of the tank. There is a 10% difference between the two meters and it's not the meters as their positions were swapped and still the same results. The tank is only used for casing, and gets misted maybe once a week.
Where is the best place to rest the hydrometer?

First off, it's hyGrometer and they are very touchy. If there is moisture on the wall where one is leaning, it will give an innacurate reading, it will be high. Try hanging it from a string in the middle of the terrarium so it gives an accurate reading of the air. Or lower it so it is the same height as the cakes but again, if there is a puddle of water under it, it will give a higher reading.

Basically, if there is moisture on the wall of the terrarium then the humidity should be over 90% if it is well sealed..
