if the ice caps melt what will be the effect on sea-level?????
    #3303345 -

i was thinking about this todas peopole seem to think that the ice caps melting would result in a raise of sea-level. but ice has 11% more volume than the water it was formed from. on the other hand iceburgs have somthing like 10% of their mass above water, depending on the actual numbers isnt it possible that there would be very little change at all?
also one would have to consider that the volume of the iceburgs un-doutably contains some trapped air. and that this would contribute to the volume as well.
perhaps the ice caps melting would mean a lowering of sea level?

"in times of widespread chaos and confusion, it has been the duty of more advanced human beings - artists, scientists, clowns, and philosophers - to create order. In such times as ours however, when there is too much order, too much m management, too much programming and control, it becomes the duty of superior men and women and women to fling their favorite monkey wrenches into the machinery. To relieve the repression of the human spirit, they must sow doubt and disruption"

Melting of the northern icecap will have no effect, as the ice there already floats in the water and the volume underwater of floating ice is equal to the volume of water produced when the ice melts. The icecap on Antarctica lies on land and will add to the volume of water in the oceans, leading to a level rise.
