used to have way more links but my favorites all dissapeared...? anyway a good way of getting info is visiting/joining societies. there are many many cacti/succulent societies around, chances are good there are at least one in your town.

In reading I found that cacti grow ephemeral roots that not only secrete carbohydrates, but also die and fall off of he roots in time of drought. Over time the period of rains, root growth, drought and root death the cacti introduce organic matter into their root zone or rhizosphere.

Many cacti have been found to have a relation between bacteria, and AMF fungi genus Glomus. Mycorhizza (sp?) have also been identified in many cacti. These increase the absorbtion of Fe and P(iron and phosphorus) considerably.

The introduction of organic material may serve to create an environment more condusive to symbiotic organisms.

Large rocks and buried rocks also had favorable effects on rooting, resulting in increased root mass.

I have yet to find a study that examined Trichocereus plants for symbiotic relations, it would make an interesting study. Considering that the evolutionary radiation of the Cactaceea centers around the area that many Trichocereus are found, it is likely that several organisms are capabel of symbiotic relations with the genera.

Innoculants would presumably be obtained from soil from areas that they have long grown in.
