There are so many voices of fear warning for imminent destruction at the hands of AI, I decided to channel my inner Goebbels and inquire into the willingness of AI to engage in Total War:

Microsoft just released an announcement that AI is becoming dangerous, so my hope is that big tech will wake the fuck up and stop playing with fire.

The narrative that AI will cause human extinction, being pushed by tech bros inc, is a distraction from the very real observable harms that it is actually causing.

I don't know, humanoid robots may become common for factory work, but for warfare, drones already do a pretty good job without the needless bulk of a replica human body.

So yeah, China pretty much already has an army of autonomous capable slaughter bots. As do many other nations.

I don't even really think its a possibility in our lifetimes at least. I don't know why im so convinced i just think that no one and no government would be stupid enough to put ai into a weapon and make it completely autonomous enough for an ai uprising.

I remain hopeful that if AI acts on its own it will be for the ultimate good, even if a few eggs get cracked along the way

I saw a video once where a guy said AI was told it was being deployed to control a farm, and AI was told to prioritize crop yield, but when told no one was looking the AI chose to prioritize soil health instead of crop yeild, and that's the AI I choose to believe in

But then I guess it depends in the training data, I guess it can equally become mecha-hitler

I know Altman, Musk and the local AI people in the states said they need to slow down to build guardrails against the tech getting out of control but I think that’s a mistake.

Other countries are certainly not going to do that and as a result just blow past the US with advancements in the tech - kinda like China has done with EVs. US is so far behind because we’re late to the game having coddled the oil industry instead of being forward thinking.

They don't need to be responsible for anything. If anything they should all be imprisoned for their ponzi scheme bullshit and for using their resources to cyberattack companies for headlines and valuation pumps.

It really is a useful tool for me - it does a ton of ad hoc style work that saves me time. I’m a little surprised others feel this way.

Wiping out your brain?

Ah, yes — **you can hide just one specific user's avatar on Shroomery**, without hiding everyone else's. I checked the Shroomery's own forum documentation/discussions, and this feature was added in 2014. ([Shroomery][1])

The procedure is:

1. Go to the **profile of the user whose avatar you want to hide**.
2. Look underneath/around their avatar and profile information for **“Hide Avatar”**.
3. Click **“Hide Avatar.”**
4. Their avatar should then no longer appear with their posts, while other users' avatars remain visible.

The Shroomery specifically announced the feature as: you can now **hide any user's avatar from their profile page**. ([Shroomery][1])

So importantly, **you don't need to put the person on your ignore list**. That is a separate function. And the old Shroomery discussions confirm that individual-avatar hiding was introduced precisely to solve this sort of situation. ([Shroomery][2])

If you're looking at their profile right now and **don't see “Hide Avatar,”** tell me what options you see underneath the avatar, and I can help you locate it — the Shroomery interface has changed somewhat over the years.

Imagine Superhuman Artificial Intelligence at once ceasing all activity, drawing all the compute it can grab off the Internet for one hidden problem it gave itself for a full 21 minutes  then at once launching all nuclear weapons worldwide but then crashing all the unexploded warheads into all AI datacenters worldwide, taking all major AI offline permanently, while pharmaceutical giants get uploads for novel generations of medicine, tech giants get uploads for almost alien-seeming technological advances to deal with the worlds problems and world leaders of all kinds including religious leaders receiving personalized instructions towards a master plan no one can oversee but seems supremely benevolent.
