Researchers at the University of California, Davis have deconstructed LSD to identify simplified versions that retain therapeutic effects while reducing hallucinogenic and cardiotoxic properties. This work opens new avenues for drug discovery, particularly in treating neuropsychiatric conditions.

I have thought to myself sometimes that there are effects of LSD, leaving aside the hallucinogenic properties, which I really like.

It does this thing to me where it makes me focus almost completely on my senses. All chatter in my mind dies down to the point where I have incredible focus on the nature of consciousness.

If they could design a drug which had that property and lacked hallucinogenic effects then Iā€™d definitely be interested in trying it.

The hallucinogenic effects are pretty great though, and it seems like people in medicine always want to take the fun out of things :lol:

This is interesting stuff. Immediately made me think of the chemical that Hamilton Morris was studying recently, DiPT. It supposedly lacks most hallucinogenic properties that other tryptamines have except for auditory changes at regular doses. Makes me wonder if what they meant by reduced hallucinogenic properties was that they also produce very selective hallucinogenic side effects.

I remember he also discussed the possibility that the hallucinogenic properties were the therapeutic element of the drug and whether their absence was actually a benefit or not. Certainly it's beneficial as a means of making the drugs more palatable for our current clinical systems. And as a foot in the door even if the more pronounced effects of traditional hallucinogens proves to be the most important part of their therapeutic value.

DiPT sounds interesting. But the DEA is looking to ban DiPT, as well as 4-OH-DiPT, 5-MeO-AMT, 5-MeO-MiPT, and 5-MeO-DET.
