The union leader was arrested early Tuesday morning after security cameras captured him chasing his partner through the streets of the Belgrano neighborhood. A criminal case was opened against him for minor injuries and “unlawful deprivation of liberty.” After giving a statement to prosecutors, he was released later that night.

Lower Belgrano awoke on Tuesday to a scene as distressing as it was cinematic: 23-year-old influencer Candela Arizaga was captured by local security cameras as she ran through the streets, with Facundo Moyano pursuing her several metres behind. Moyano is secretary of the United Union of Toll and Related Workers and the son of Hugo Moyano, secretary-general of the Truck Drivers’ Union.

The day ended with the two-time national congressman leaving the Northern Prosecutor’s Office in Buenos Aires’ Saavedra neighborhood. The office, headed by prosecutor Julián Pistone, took his statement after formally notifying him of the allegations.

“Everything has been cleared up,” Moyano told reporters as he climbed into the car that took him back home. He was wearing a jacket and had his face partly concealed beneath a baseball cap.

Moyano had been transferred to the prosecutor’s office, located at the intersection of Ricardo Balbín and Crisólogo Larralde, from the Commune 4 neighborhood police station at 861 Montes de Oca Street.

Contrary to the former lawmaker’s statement, the day was marked by considerable uncertainty, with conflicting reports doing anything but bringing clarity to the developing story.

### Facundo Moyano and an Almost Impossible Trail

Throughout the afternoon, a large contingent of reporters attempted to track Moyano’s whereabouts, which remained unknown for several hours.

There was speculation that Facundo was being held at Detention Facility No. 4 in Parque Patricios, which has a gender-related offences unit. Another possible location mentioned during the frantic afternoon was the police station at 151 Cochabamba Street, in the San Telmo neighborhood.

It was ultimately confirmed that Moyano was being held at the Montes de Oca police station, only three blocks from his father’s home.

Juan Pablo Fioribello, the Moyano family’s lawyer, confirmed that the union leader declined to provide blood and urine samples because the prosecutor’s office had not issued a compulsory order requiring him to do so.

According to information obtained by this newspaper, Moyano mainly expressed a desire to sleep. He eventually did so after requesting the assistance of a “pill.”

Fioribello went to the police station, although it has yet to be determined who will formally represent the union leader in the criminal proceedings opened against the former Renewal Front congressman for “minor injuries and unlawful deprivation of liberty.”

In addition to Fioribello, the 41-year-old Moyano received support from his closest associate, Toll Workers’ Union official Diego Di Santo. Di Santo declined to speak to reporters during Moyano’s journey through the police system. However, he was seen entering the station carrying a bag, according to the newspaper *Diario RÍO NEGRO*.

Facundo’s brother, “Huguito” Moyano, was also photographed by the newspaper’s cameras.

### The Account Given by Candela Arizaga, Facundo Moyano’s Partner

Meanwhile, attorney Diego Storto appeared as Arizaga’s legal representative.

According to SAME emergency medical service director Alberto Crescenti, when Arizaga received medical attention, she said she was under the effects of cocaine use.

In her account, given at Pirovano Hospital, she reported experiencing “hallucinations” after 48 hours of drug use and denied that Moyano had physically assaulted her.

By the end of the day, the Instagram personality, who has more than 300,000 followers, was reportedly travelling to her hometown of Rosario.

According to reports, Moyano and Arizaga have been in a relationship since February. The influencer previously had a brief romantic relationship with cumbia singer Elías Valenzuela, better known as L-Gante.

Facundo Moyano has previously been romantically linked to Susana Giménez, was in a relationship with Nicole Neumann and married model Eva Bargiela.

The secrecy surrounding the Moyano clan permeated the violent case, which on Tuesday afternoon pushed another major issue from the top of Argentina’s political agenda: the Senate’s consideration of the Land Law.

The debate is scheduled to take place on Thursday, May 6, and a large public demonstration is expected in the square outside the National Congress.

Facundo Moyano is an Argentine trade union leader and former national congressman, best known as the son of powerful union boss Hugo Moyano and as a prominent member of a family repeatedly surrounded by investigations into alleged money laundering, misuse of union funds and illicit business dealings. Although the most serious corruption cases have primarily targeted his father Hugo and his brother Pablo, Facundo’s own career has been marked by controversy over aggressive union tactics, accusations of political favouritism and a proposal that would have granted the toll workers’ union he founded a stake in newly nationalised motorway companies. His latest arrest has further intensified scrutiny of privilege, secrecy and accountability within one of Argentina’s most powerful union dynasties.

Yes, they are running fast.

Something must have gotten lost in the translation. I don't get it.

Is this a major drug related story down in Argentina?

Something did get lost in the translation, mainly the political context.

This is not a major drug-trafficking story. Facundo Moyano is a former congressman and a member of one of Argentina’s most powerful trade-union families. His 23-year-old girlfriend was filmed running partly undressed through the streets of Buenos Aires while he chased after her. She later said she had been awake using cocaine for about 48 hours, was hallucinating, and denied that he had assaulted her. Moyano was arrested and investigated for minor injuries and unlawful deprivation of liberty, then released.

The story became national news because of who he is, the bizarre video, the cocaine, and the secrecy surrounding the case. My comment about how fast they were running was simply dark humor about the surveillance footage, not the main point of the article.

Ok I was not familiar with Facundo Moyano. I see now.

That may be pretty common. I had a GF who loved coke. I would doze off when the sun came up, she kept going. Many a time she would go outside naked, sometimes she would just sit on the porch, other times she would wander off and I had to go after her.

Coke is a hell of a drug, as they say.
