Just bought some silver stock (SLV, SLVR & AGQ) since silver seems to be picking up.

Whatchu all thinking about Nvidia buying Groq? Seems like a great move to shore up another significant component of the ecosystem.

I am taking a stab at GEMI here

Has to be some element of tax loss selling going on here. Next year will look different hopefully

I also sold out of all my precious metals (ETFs) last week and this morning. Moving that into Energy

For the record, I was stopped out of GEMI.  It gave back the mid-December pop and then some.  Consistently rejected at its 8 day EMA for the past couple of weeks.  I prefer to buy strength, as that shows me where the buyers showed up, and I can then place a stop below that level to bail me out if it turns out to be a fake out.  If you're buying GEMI today, you have to believe the early Dec (all time) lows will hold, so you'd better have a stop there.

Just as it's nice to buy stocks trading at their 52 week high (because they typically continue to make new ones), it's inversely dangerous to buy stocks at their 52 week low (because they'll often continue to make new ones).

Keep in mind that until we're into the New Year, the markets will be a low liquidity environment, and this tends to result in either a snooze fest or frustratingly erratic movement, as either no one is really committing to direction due to a lack of participation, or a couple of big players can whip around price with minimal capital.

Regardless of that, I do want to make one other comment on GEMI.  When the market isn't giving you good setups, it's time to take notes and plan for when it does... GEMI is definitely not signaling a buy right here right now, but it ran into the $40's on its IPO only a few months ago, and is now around $10/share with a current ~$1 billion market cap.  Consider that GEMI is in the same business as COIN, but COIN carries a ~$60 billion market cap.

Of course, COIN has better integration and reach across the financial system, driving significantly higher volumes, and so it warrants a premium to a smaller player such as GEMI.  Nevertheless, the difference in valuation is stark.  So if we consider the thought exercise of a potential raging bull market in crypto returning some day, it doesn't seem outside the realm of possibility that GEMI might take a stab at perhaps half of COIN's present-day, depressed market cap, which would equate to a ~30X return from current levels.

Now I'm not saying that this WILL happen, but it's the type of potential scenario that seems POSSIBLE to happen.  And for that reason, keeping an eye on GEMI for a proper setup seems like a worthwhile endeavor.

I like that idea $GEMI is doing with the crypto cash back card or whatever. Good way to accumulate some crypto.

Thanks for that Geo. I took a page from your book and used a stop loss on ENVX and got stopped out. I will just be sitting on my hands for now. GEMI on the watch list for sure. If you take a position again let us know please!

Stops will save your ass.  Almost without exception, I end up in pain and regret any time I neglect to set one.  Protect your capital and live to trade another day.  If you can keep a lid on your losses, the upside will eventually take care of itself.

I write this as much to remind myself as I am to help anyone else, as this can be quite difficult to put into practice, requiring extreme discipline and freedom from the tug of your very human emotional responses.  I still sometimes make the mistake of "style drift" (i.e. changing my thesis mid-trade - to stay in the trade - when the original trade premise gets invalidated).  Don't do that.

On a quick note regarding the Gemini 4% crypto cash back credit card, it does indeed sound pretty good.  Unfortunately, the fine print puts a lid on what you'll actually get to earn with this...

Quote:
All qualifying purchases under the 4% back category earn 4% back on up to $300 in spend per month (then 1% thereafter in that month). Spend cycle will refresh on the 1st of each calendar month.

4% back on $300 is $12.  Better than nothing, but for folks with considerably higher cash flow through their credit lines, you'll be better served with the following options:
  • Citi DoubleCash card (unlimited 2% cash back)
  • Costco members get the Costco Visa (4% back on gas, 3% restaurants/travel, 2% costco, 1% everything else)
  • CapitalOne Savor One (4% groceries and restaurants - this one can however have a fee, I'm grandfathered in at 3% on their original rollout so I don't pay an annual fee here)
  • Amazon Prime Visa (5-6% back on all Amazon and Whole Foods grocery purchases).

You’re grandfathered in on a rewards card?? Ok now I am jealous Geo!!

We use capital one and it’s great. I don’t need a hotel or rental car often, but when the need comes up it’s covered with our rewards

So Trump will probably be replacing Powell in a few months. Anyone care to speculate how that will affect the market, and how we should be preparing?

Re: STOCKS - An Intro Tutorial & Ongoing Discussion [Re: Baby_Hitler]

Given the pressure Trump has already put on Powell to promote interest rate cuts, as well as the leading candidates floated as for the job, the market is anticipating some measure of continued rate cuts throughout 2026, and that expectation tilts to a "more dovish than Powell" stance.

That said, Powell, despite giving up job as chairman, is eligible to remain a voting member of the Fed committee for a while.  Economic data, particularly that related to inflation and jobs, may constrain the ability of the Fed to cut as aggressively as Trump has been pushing for.

The fact that the market already expects a dovish Fed through 2026, means that this is likely priced in.  Nevertheless, "don't fight the Fed" is a key mantra for the market, and so as long as inflation doesn't suddenly run hot, this should be a tailwind for the market throughout the balance of the year.

Small caps (IWM) have been breaking out.  The SPY and Q's are also performing admirably.  I think it makes sense to stay pedal to the medal this year, and begin to take profits into any rapidly accelerating extension toward year end.

I've been doing well on gold and silver lately. Do you think the upward trend is likely to continue?

Re: STOCKS - An Intro Tutorial & Ongoing Discussion [Re: Baby_Hitler] * 1

It's all relevant to time frame.  With a long enough time horizon, then sure.  Practically anything priced in dollars that doesn't deteriorate, will continue to trend higher in relative value.  But if you're an active trader, I would be taking some profits into the move, right here, right now.

I hold a stash of physical metals, but this is largely an asset allocation thing, not an active investment thing.  If I had SLV or GLD on my books, you better believe I'd at least be selling calls against the position, if not outright selling tranches (likely a combination).  Short-term, this isn't a sustainable move.  That said, parabolic moves make the most money right before their last gasp; and then they can lose it just as quickly.

Know your time frame, know your trade, and then execute your plan.

Scaling into a silver short via ZSL in long only accounts and short AGQ in my margin account

Budgeting for $125 silver. At/Above $100 I go bigger. very small so far (5% full port). When it breaks its going down 70%, will hold positions after the break. Until then it's going to move against

Metals have been rising as Trump galavants... Poll nums gonna reality check it

Edit: Silver at $100 is 5x cost of production. Absolutely no one will be buying it but degens at those prices. Shortttt itttt

RKLB is up 55 % since I mentioned having bought it.

Heard of HDIV? It pays nearly 10% dividends.
Any other dividend darlings out there?
