Peace comes in baby steps. If a bunch of people make an effort to try to find some common ground, and they see eye to eye on something, then that good will will spread.

If nobody, or a very small minority of people, finds common ground with “the other side”, then all hope is pretty much lost.

People need to come together. That’s what this life is about.

Yes, murder is wrong. This guy shouldn’t have been shot for talking. But also, you have to see why what he was saying might drive division more and more. These types of politicians love to drive division unless we keep them in check. The way to keep them in check is to find the common ground with people you disagree with.

If you allow them to drive a stake between two sides, and nobody is willing to be generous enough to find a common ground, then you’re all fucked.

This goes for everybody. Not just the US.

You guys all need to come together, there is a middle ground that you’re just not letting yourselves see. Both sides have valid points but take extreme positions and refuse to find things which they have in common.

To combat division, you need to talk about what you have in common with each other. The focus has been put solely on what you don’t share in common with your neighbours for way too long it seems.


More like 15 pages of people denying facts.

You can’t see the forest for the trees. There is a common ground.

You’re not winning anything by being all like “I was right and you were wrong”, even if it is true.

These are all just silly games that the leaders of your country (and other countries) are playing. It’s dividing the people.

Find the common ground. It will feel better, I promise.

I know you’re just shit talking for fun, but I’ll engage for the sake of others.

The middle ground varies depending on the people communicating. It is the effort to find a middle ground which cultivates an appreciation for one another, which the extremes seem not to have in these discussions. They aren’t communicating. They are talking past one another.

It’s been happening since the dawn of time and the only way out of it is to properly communicate with and understand those who hold opposing views, and to find the things you have in common.

Both sides claim to hold the facts. Both sides claim to hold the moral high ground. In fact, they both don’t, and they’re describing things which are true and denying other truths in order for their “side” to win.

In reality we’re all in this together, and the longer we leave it before we decide to start communicating honestly, openly, and with compassion for one another, then the worse things will get.

So yeah, banning bolt action rifles will solve all your problems Budman.

What is happening is that people like Kirk, and people on the other side too, are trying to get you on their “team” so they can gain power. That’s all it is. It’s a big popularity contest, and it’s very nasty at the moment.

Find the true common ground by communicating properly with your neighbours (including the people on this forum) and you will feel better.

Declaring your statements to be fact, and others to be completely false from the outset is not trying to find the common ground. You are being manipulated by these politicians and the media (all media, not just whatever media you don’t like) into taking these hardline approaches against your fellow countrymen. Do not continue to fall for this trap man.

Find the common ground, which involves asking thoughtful and honest questions and giving thoughtful and honest answers to those you disagree with.

Whether you like it or not Lowbrow, 1234go’s question is honestly a good one (although it is probably said with some scorn). Try not to react and try to engage him with your own, honest thoughts.

There’s no right or wrong answers. It’s about being open and honest with each other, and you can take your turn to ask 1234go an honest question in return.

Most of the time it takes more than a question to find common ground though. Questions for the other person are good, but it’s also good to let them know about anything you may agree with them about, so they don’t feel too threatened.

So 1234go could have said “Can you break that down for me? And I agree with you that the murder of Charlie Kirk was wrong.”

That would be a more honest attempt at finding the common ground rather than just asking the question.
