Thanks, this surely is a lot of fun. I'm super excited for the pans. I used to go out and pick them for my dad when I was a kid. I never took them, but I have a vivid memory of my dad having a conversation with the wind screen wipers on his car after he did.

My "pin mold" is contaminated with pseudomonas... on purpose. :laugh2:

Rhizopus is fun. So is pseudomonas.

Nice!

I was reading a paper on in vitro oyster/pseudo companionship recently.

Planning to 'contaminate' some colonized grain jars at spawn with azospirillum.  As they produce the same hormone.

I'm already adding them to my casings and I think it's going to be a winner.  With earlier being more win lol

I’m back with more. This is millet+hemp, looked completely colonized with pan cyan. I placed a thin layer of pasteurized peat/verm casing. I have this 48 h later:

It’s too fluffy for typical overlay. It’s about 1 cm deep.  And grew very fast!  Compost it or see what happens?

That's all Rhizopus (pin mold).

So I'm fairly new to this, only completing 1 grow, but I went all in and had 13 tubs, all S2B, and over the past week I've thrown out 10 of them due to contam. After going through my notes, I noticed that they were all spawned with either feed corn or feed milo. The only tubs that I've taken a harvest off, were spawned with brown rice.
This confused me as I have a 15psi pressure cooker that I have added extra weight too so it is truly over 15psi, and my bags are never over 1 1/2 pounds, plus I always sterilize the grain bags for 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
After doing some reading, I found that people have a lot of contam issues with feed grains, and after watching a video from that myco philia guy, I have concluded that feed grade grain is causing all my problems, as no amount of pressure cooking can kill everything.
This may be different depending on where you are in the world. I've seen plenty of successful grows on feed grain, but at least from where I am - our feed grain sucks for mycology.

I'm just mentioning this in case another newcomer is having trouble with contamination. Try brown rice before you throw in the towel, and if you think brown rice is too expensive, I just spent $50 on corn and milo, not to mention the time, coir and space I've wasted. I would have happily spent twice or three times that amount on grain that wasn't fucky

I run feed store rye and wheat and have very minimal issues. Proper grain prep is crucial.

There is nothing wrong with feed grain.

It's the skill level of the user, never the grain.  Properly prepared grain is sterile, period.

Could be. I did follow multiple teks on preparing corn and milo. NSNS, soak overnight, soak and simmer. All contaminated. We'll see how my new rice bags go.

Since you readily admit how new you are to this, have you considered that maybe your Agar game needs work? I hope you aren't shooting spores to grain.

Another possibility is the seals on your jars or bags could be in question. Have you modded your lids at all?

Let's walk it back further... What exactly is your step by step up until you see contams?

Sure is. Beautiful little 🐓 spurs. I dig it.🥰

I rarely find them so whole, they're usually somewhat broken for me. I'm a little jelly. 🤣

I just toss them in with the rest of the rye, they colonized just fine. 😎 Granted, I don't get that many but, if I did, I doubt it'd make a difference. Haha

I didn't notice anything on the agar. I went LC - Agar - LC - Grain.

I use bags for grain. I use a fresh syringe and needle every session, and use an induction coil to sterilize the needle in between bags. I even use my SAB for injecting the bags.

I don't think there's anything wrong with my grain prep. As I said, 2 1/2 to 3 hours at 15psi and I've tried multiple teks for hydrating. My feed grain is dirty and I don't know how old it is. I had to kill all the mites in the corn using my oven, and the milo has rocks, dust, stems, and the occasional beetle.
Myco philia had the same issue, I honestly just think the quality of feed grain where I am is shit. I can't ignore the fact that every tub with feed grain contamed and only the rice survived.

How long did you soak and how big are the bags? Going over 3 hours might be worth a try.
