Ahh I see. You just clarified the non-difference between colonizing and fruiting conditions for me just by explaining that “the myc forming now will form into mushrooms.” I’ve been wondering why people say there is no difference for awhile! It just never made sense because, to me, the myc is  still growing on the cakes, and when it stops then you flip the lid, which to me seems like a whole different step with a different skill set involved, but you explained how there is no difference very well.

81  hours into fruiting conditions:





Looks like at least 3 cakes need a little more time.  I think I might be flipping the lid to tonight at 2 am but let me know what you guys think…should I wait another day??

Yeah that's a tough one. I can tell you what I did but I'm not sure it applies to ya. At day 5 or 6 I opened took pics and sprayed from a foot above very lightly misting. The way I determined that was I took a flashlight and looked at the surface conditions.

There was no water droplets so I lightly sprayed each cake once and checked again and saw some water droplets in the light so I closed it back up and checked it once a day for smell and just a visual checks taking pics posting it here and asking for opinions. The way I saw my daily checks was it gave an extra amount of fae but I'm not sure that's true. It could've been the lid not being airtight that gave em all the fae they needed.

Your humidity looks good those foggy walls  are a great sign for this tek. Thats your hydrogometer essentially. Foggy walls means high humidity means good.


But definitely don't panic, as mentioned you'll probably be successful if you do nothing at all and just leave it be.

I'll just say when I did spray it was only the once and I made sure to take clear pictures everytime I opened it to check on em so I could review the pics later and share them with the shroomery for their opinions. Take some with flash on to check surface conditions.

These are the cakes at 104 hours since fruiting. Tonight will make 5 days.

At day 5 I honestly think I should follow Mateja’s instructions exactly.

I am going to:
Take the lid off, take pics.
Mist from 2-4 above cakes.
Close lid for a minute or 2.
Open lid to take pics.
If surface conditions look good, I’m going to flip the lid but JUST barely have it cracked.
I believe this stage is really meant to mist in order to achieve proper surface conditions. It seems like from the original thread people focus more on the FAE on this stage, which is def important, but it seems like achieving surface conditions is the primary goal, and once those conditions are met THEN focus on FAE for evaporation/pinning.

How soon until pins do you think?  It is a bit difficult for me to tell from the posts in the Water Tub TEK just bc everyone’s myc and set-up move differently, but considering evaporation is a pinning trigger, I’d say 3-5 days from when I flipped the lid, misted, & turned the lights on. Is this accurate?

24 hrs after misting for the first time & this is what the cakes look like:






Some look a little dryer, however, like these:
(first 3 pics are the same cake)








I don’t think I should mist right now. I think I should wait until the initial misting drops have evaporated to mist again.  What do you guys think?

That shows the humidity level is up. Let it be for now. If it gets drier close the tub. I think I saw in another thread that this is APE which is a slow grower so it's gonna need some time but if conditions are right it'll pin.

It’s just PE, not APE but I will follow your advice regardless.

Just to clarify, are you saying that even if the surface of the cakes don’t have droplets but if the walls of the tub still have droplets then I shouldn’t mist until the walls are dry? Or would that not even happen bc the droplets on the tub reflect the surface conditions of the cakes?

2 days after misting, the cakes kinda look dry





But some look better than others, like these:



Id say most are on the dryer side. There are still beads of water on the sides of the tub, however, but only half of the tub at this point

Yup I'm not an expert I've had 1 watertub grow, it was successful but only 1 grow but to me that says humidity is dropping. In Matejas write up he essentially said if your humidity is on point the surface conditions will remain like your first pics after misting. If I were you I'd close that tub up.
