Mateja Water Tub Tek HELP!
    #29095703 -

In 10 hours from now that will be the 48 hours that Mateja advised was time enough for the “myc to regenerate.”

The thing is, my cakes do have myc on the coco coir, but nowhere near the amount that Metaja had on his cakes. Is it ok to start misting and switching to fruiting conditions regardless of what the cakes look like??

I am at work right now, and didn’t take any pics of my grow.  I am sorry if this doesn’t make sense but for those that it does, any help would be appreciated because like I said, the 48 hours is almost up and I’ve followed the TEK word for word up until this point!!

Mushroom growing isn't something you can exactly time like that. His genetics might be superior or cleaner than yours, and thus better colonized. Or your genetics might simply be slower, which is not inherently good or bad.

Similarly, the whole point of things like water tub tek is so that you dont have to mist all the time. Does Metaja recommend misting the second 48 hours is up?

This hobby really requires patience. If you have seen compelling mycelium growth in the last 48 hours, there's no reason to think anything is going wrong. And most people put their cakes into fruiting conditions the second they spawn to bulk, provided they are using a water tank or a monotub with coir brought to field capacity.

Ok thanks!
Metaja did seem to suggest that 48 hours is enough for myc to regenerate, but also showed pics of what it should look like. There is DEF a decent amount of growth on my cakes, I will take a pic when I get off work to show better!

Here are the pics!

4 hours and 45 min until it’s been 48 hours since putting the coir to the cakes…

Yeah they don't look terrible at the moment. From what I can see, anyway. Definitely don't panic unless you see it stall altogether for a few days in a row.

Thank you so much!

So, just proceed to fruiting conditions?

Here is the quote from Metaja’s water tub tek, sorry it took awhile I work long, odd hours:

“For as long as >99% humidity is maintained the colony will keep regenerating new myc from all over the surface regardless of whether it has a coir layer to grab on to or not. Here are a few pics to show the transformation after ~48h in a closed Water Tub:”

Then after the pics Mateja says:

“At this point the cakes are ready to fruit so now we'll spray gently 2-3times from at least >3feet above or higher and immediately after I usually stick my head in to take a close look before deciding to give it 3 more sprays and then I inspect again”

So, not sure what % the coir on my cakes are colonized compared to Mateja’s, but like you said (and I appreciate/agree with even tho my experience level isn’t very much) my cakes don’t look bad but def not where Mateja’s was after 48 hours.

A few things I would like to add now that I have time:
1) These cakes were made using agar that I have made using Josex no-pour agar tek.  I believe about half of the cakes were made with agar directly from a MSS, and the other half of the cakes I made from agar that I cut out from decent looking colonies. Mateja could’ve been using better mycelium?

2) I used Ziran’s updated PF cake TEK to make my cakes.

Many of the cakes were fully colonized at 3 weeks, some a little sooner, but a lot of the cakes took a few more days past 3 weeks. All were for sure fully colonized after 4 weeks, then I waited a week for the myc to consolidate. Not sure how much that is recommended but I have heard the practice of consolidation and it makes sense to me, at least to make sure the cakes are 100% colonized. My point is that I posted my cakes a few weeks ago and ppl noted the myc was a bit slow, which I agree, even though the strain is penis envy and I’ve heard it moves a little slower than other strains (but also, I’ve heard not really much slow as well). I did pack them a little loose, mostly bc of running out of verm and a little bc I just had carpal tunnel a few days prior to making the cakes. I don’t believe that should make a difference at this point in the process, however, just trying to figure all this out and what is going on with them right now.

3) To hydrate the coir I used Bod’s Easy AF Bucket TEK.  I love & appreciate all of BOD’s teks (and everyone’s tek that has helped in this process). I plan on making a grow log & thanking everyone.

The thing is, I used a 650 g LOOSE bag of coir and multiplied on the low end … 3.5 (instead of 5 originally recommended in BOD’s tek) bc Bod warned in the bucket tek the coir could be too soupy. So I put 2 quarts and 275 ml of water in and it was like a ton of water with a little bit of coir in it. Not sure what the issue was, bc I even read up and searched posts on here regarding loose coir for the bucket tek and the few I found suggested just hydrating the same way as with a brick of coir.  I could post pics of the coir on the scale if anyone wants to verify.
Anyways, my point is that I squeezed as much water out as I could with paper towels but the 24 hours since dunking the cakes was coming up and I think the coir was a BIT (like, a few extra drops, not much at all) past field capacity. Could the coir being a little wet affect the growth/regeneration of mycelium?

Just trying to give all the info/possibilities I can think of.

Yeah 48 hrs is a pretty arbitrary number that doesn't mean much. The technique relies on low fae or at least normal fae and high humidity throughout the grow in my case. Because I live in a low humidity desert probably. Wherever Mateja lived maybe it was more humidity hence 48hrs.

For me I got full myc regeneration in 5 days  and it needed a light misting and then fully closed the rest of the grow except opening once a day to check the smell and growth.

LMAO! 🤣 you want kiddin’ brother! I spent last night blazing blunt after blunt and staring at the tub trying to NOT touch it. Then (thankfully) I took the time to re-read all the other guys posts on the Water Tub Tek and Mateja added recommends waiting as long as possible until proper surface conditions are met, which is directly correlated to the amount of myc covering the coir.

From the way mine looks, I’m guessing it will be more like 96 hours in 99% humidity for me

Sounds about right. Trust me something is gonna grow from these, only question is how much. You must take pictures when they start pinning, we all want to see

Thanks bro! I hope so, even though this Tek is one of the easiest, simplest ones I have come across I have still put in a lot of time and def care about it turning out right! I def couldn’t do it without the help of this site.

I will be posting pics after I mist. I’ve studied The Mosted Cake Project and have a good idea of what to look for, but reading it and executing it are 2 different skills.

Also, I just turned on the lights to take those pics. Most of the time the closet door is closed and completely dark. Is this OK for this stage, as long as I keep the closet door open 24/7 during fruiting conditions??

Thank you so much for all the good vibes!

Hopefully just one more day until fruiting conditions, but it appears that another 2-3 more days wouldn’t hurt it.
We will see!

A tip: There is no difference between fruiting conditions and colonizing conditions in any type of grow. Thats been a hard one for alot of growers to break the thinking on myself included. That growth that you're seeing will continue into mushrooms if completely left alone, no lid ascew or anything.

If you check once a day and the surface conditions look way too wet then change the fae conditions, leave the lid askew and monitor changes but like I said I went the whole grow with the lid latched on. No lids are truly airtight so it is getting fae.
