Im gonna piggyback here (hehe)

Does the strategy change with pursuing things like higher potency or bigger first flushes or is it still fruit a clone and then go back to spores that came from a fruit that showed the desired characteristics? I ask bc I just pulled spores from a fruit that came from a clone and the above is basically what I want to achieve. I labelled the print "F1" and while I understand that that isn't scientifically accurate, it's how I'm going to choose to keep track here. Tbh, I have a surface level understanding of the generational thing and breeding back to achieve stability/ expression of traits, but this is from an animal breeding viewpoint, and I really dont understand this thing of ours and how that applies. Im not asking for an explanation on that, I'm just throwing it out there bc I may sound ignorant. I will ask though- what happens if a fruit grown from a clone gets cloned? Is that culture just the same culture as the first clone and one would be chasing their tail?

If you want to clone a fruit that came from a clone....just go back to your original plate it's the same genetics with less cell division on the lineage.

NICE!

Here is my very first grow from a cloned fruit.

Is it just not a good candidate for clustering?

I have several lines going so I'm looking to cull.

That's more or less what I thought. The stability comes from genetically stabilizing the spores, and the clone is just a means of choosing the "parental" genes to use? Im sure that's a very watered down description, but ya know...

Pretty much.
The idea of clone print repeat is pretty basic but stretched out.
So say you cross x with y with a result u more less desired , your supposed to clone your desired fruit , gownit out and go from spores on that run , then clone again then print n repeat.
The only reason for cloning in any of those steps is to ensure there aren't any environmental factors at play, in reality you could clone print print print print clone print and hope it works out and you'd be 6 grows ahead of schedule lol

Well I learned something very important today. So it's safe to say to say then when all I want to do is maximize 1st flush efficiency, I can skip the cloning and just spore, fruit, spore, fruit? I would think that continuously selecting largest fruits from largest clusters wouldn't have an environmental cause like a mutant?

Ok, I think a whole bunch of shit just clicked.

The clone doesn't have anything to do with genetic isolation, it's just a way to grab the culture after you've fruited and repeat it for the sake of ensuring the trait that caught your eye is genetic. Ok cool.

So that means spores and only spores are how we'd go about reducing the genetic diversity, and that is done through inbreeding, same as mammals. I understand the whole breeding back to a parent in mammals to achieve recessive gene expression and whatnot, but I didn't understand how what we're doing is inbreeding, but yep - I think I got it. This is inbreeding bc we're creating a culture off the same spore print, which is essentially pairing genetics that came from the same however many "strains" are within that particular fruit. From there, it becomes the same as stabilizing traits in snakes(my experience) or whatever else. Albinism is recessive, so back to a parent you go, and then there's like a 25%(I think) chance a child will be albino with another percentage then being heterozygous for albinism. Now take your F2 albino and breed back to the parent albino, and viola! We're basically doing that by creating cultures from spores that came from the same fruit, it just gets a little foggy bc it's more complicated than 2 organisms both behaving as the two needed parents.

Do I mostly have that right? This shit is bonkers all around. I fuggin love it!

Anyone got a cleaning jars hack for those without dishwashers?

Not looking forward to 30 of them :l

Has anyone used those ultrasonic dishwashers?

They all seem pretty worthless for actually cleaning food, but for removing any solids from jars before getting pressure cooked, it might be enough.

Self serve car wash. Cheap and powerful hot soapy pressure washers. A few quarters and all your jars and tubs sparkle like diamonds.

I made some pucks  to use instead of agar. Just want to confirm were these done perfectly?

Inoculated all the way to one side. Now I'm waiting for the mycelium make its way across. Am I ready to start making transfers?

What do I do after I've made the transfers? should I throw some CV on top and top fruit it?

You could transfer anything that is alive, but I'd wait longer and see what that does. A few more days. When you see some organization you want to grab that first.

And from this point if I wanted to I could continue using pucks for the transfers?  Just curious.  I have a few more pucks that havnt been inoculated.

Ps. So you recommend. Waiting till it's at least half way across?

What do you mean by organization?

Not trying to be harsh but there's just so much confirmation bias here it becomes a bit counterintuitive.

Thank you. I'm conflicted about what to do with your response. I see mycelium engulfing, choking, eating, feasting on melanin and isolating the mold, however you want to call it, and so if someone says that's not the case, I'm incined to say that my (anecdotal) experience differs. Can you help me out about what I can do differently to foster better communication? English is not my first language but I didn't think the misunderstanding can be that great.

Maybe I'm confusing facts and personal experiences? I don't doubt what Stipe said about psilo, pan etc myc not being parasitic. Something is happening though (in my experience) that seems to make some jars of spawn viable to spawn given enough time.

See those fuzzy stipes?  Personally I'd introduce more FAE.

Small fruits are typically genetic.  Second flush might have larger but if you're looking for larger fruits go back to spore.

Hey mr. piggy

can you expand on going back to spores? Plz

I don't actually understand what this means or how to do it?

And what if I started with spores does that make a difference?

If you can't already tell by that question above.
I'm really just clueless on this topic

could you help me out a little please?

This is happening to me more often than I would like. with other varieties And while I'm getting a ton of experience out of it. it's kind of annoying.

Ps. Does the size/maturity of the fruit affects its potency?
