The same nothingness that gives way to consciousness and a life on a planet?

The supposition being that everyone who believes in "soul" agrees on whatever it means, as if a simple definition found in a dictionary is enough to establish common agreement, which is doubtful at best. Does this make agreement on whatever is meant when we use the word "soul" necessarily precede stated opinions regarding what happens after we die? Not necessarily, but in this thread the 2 have already become entangled. Altogether, it's a funny word game we can solve by dying at which point we probably won't care about solving the riddle.

Upon death, your soul exits  your body in the form of a wave and enters into a hidden dimension where it carries genetic information from your past life. This wave facilitates the soul’s bonding process to your next incarnation and matches you to a similar set of genes (in the zygote stage).

On the way, slight modifications are made to reflect your personal growth: Things like how careful you are, how much concentration you gained and what physical characteristics you aspired to are all updated.

All your hopes and dreams, all the valuable progress you made in this life, will be retained.

That is how you evolved. You did not evolve through random mutations over billions of years.

If no life exists, life will form, as it did in the beginning when one consciousness shattered itself into many pieces, each responsible for its own spiritual growth.

God shattered.

And after God shattered, the pieces grew more complex with each successive generation. The pieces developed different personalities and began to take on different forms. Some favored camouflage, others favored armor. All developed in accordance with their own personality and the mechanics of the universe accommodated it.

God knew the universe was designed in an acceptable manner before shattering, or else God wouldn’t have shattered.

God designed it in such a way that all paths are given an equal opportunity to live and thrive as they are gently guided to the truth over the course of infinite reincarnations.

But of all the traits one can cultivate, discipline is best. Those with discipline will be born into families who use their resources effectively.

Likewise, those who are not disciplined will be born into families who don’t use their resources effectively.

Thus, each creature in the ecosystem and all our neighbors climbed a mountain of advancements to get to our current state, and they are all completely responsible for their current situation.

Some have good DNA for making good decisions. Some have bad DNA for making bad decisions. Some have such bad DNA they were aborted multiple times before they were born!

Because of these inequalities, deception is sometimes necessary for survival. In our civilization, it is especially necessary because not everyone is cultivating discipline.

But discipline will eventually prevail, though its progress moves at a snail’s pace, and will make its mark on our institutions and traditions. In the meantime, we must be patient with our neighbors and choose between cunningly devised fables where there is love and the waste howling wilderness where there is truth.

the universe doesn't care that you were ever conscious, you're just s small function of a vast system of quantum entanglement. when you die, you could argue that you still theoretically "exist" somewhere in spacetime, but that's also kind of a cringe fantasy to help us cope with the prolonged existential dread that comes with trying to abstractly contextualize our own death. all you ever were was a functioning link in a static chain of cause and effect, nothing more because there doesnt HAVE to be. there's nothing abstract about it. its concrete and final and people who shit themselves with fear over it tend to rationalize their own nice happy conclusions, which is fine. i'm more of a tear the bandaid off kind of guy.

none of this ever happened and we were never here. it's all just butterflies. when you die it'll be like getting a papercut, like it never happened all at once. you can never exist in the past or future, only the present moment. if you're not alive presently, you wont have experience or consciousness, simple as that.

do we all flow back into some mystic river of souls only to pop back out again on the other side?maybe, but you'll never know because your physical brain and body will be destroyed and recycled back into nitrogen and carbon, while all that remains is a withered husk and the probability of you in superposition as a function of a wave. just try to manifest that

But have you tried an out of body you forced to happen for hours just to get remote viewing. The consciousness can see things it has no way of knowing.  Best case is we exist in vast universe without pain. Worst case we exist and feel everything.

I think honestly the best case for me would be not existing.

I’ll take that option.

Do you remember anything from before you were born?

Try and imagine what it would be like to go to sleep and never wake up. Think about that.

You can’t have an experience of nothing. So after you’re dead, the only thing that can happen is the same experience, or same sort of experience as after you die.

It is possible we are 12 bit calculators in our waking lives as we process events throughout the day. Our observation and experience is still greatly limited. It took the human brain supraeons to evolve enough for us to even abstractly conceptualize our own death. That alone is a miracle. Forget the firmament. That alone is novel. That is divine.

So why do we have the will to live?
Because the carbon atom is versatile with four covalent bonds, capable of making up exponentially more atomic bonds than any other element. And people ask why our physiology is so complicated

:curbyourenthusiasm:

So what CAN happen when you die?
Well since superposition has been proven as the collapse of a wave function, and the universe was once deeply entangled, we can be said to exist in a causal information loop where probability and reality are determined by the exchange of parcels of information at Planck length Solid objects now only exist as static when they are being observed. a the universe presents us with a more untangled reality as it perpetually expands without the loss or gain of heat.

Whatever is happening with the observed/observer dialectic phenomenon is where we need to look. Our answer is there.

Some researchers claim that entropy and the passing of “time” is linear data compression and optimization within a closed system. This matrix idea is being positive by several researchers, one of whom is a Yale doctorate iirc.

Although I do not subscribe to this, I do believe that reality is far more disturbing than what we are actually seeing. You’d have to be crazy not to realize that. Take for example the wolf or a mantis shrimp. Surely we are not so vain as a species that we claim to have ultimate powers of observation and reasoning, when the truth is, that 12 bit calculator is trying to make sense of millions of terabytes of data .

We can only see a little bit.
Far less than the tip of the iceberg.
philosophical treatises and ethical questions are interesting. We all know about Plato’s Cave but I digress.
To see the world and not just the shadows we have to die.
It is possible that we experience everything all at once when we die. So much that the moment essentially becomes an avalanche of data in increasing orders of magnitude as the moment of our death drags out into eternity. We would essentially watch a he universe begin and end from the event horizon of our death.
All that data gets processed at once.
You will still exist in spacetime theoretically, but you won’t be alive.

Unpopular opinion. No god, no demon. Willful universe? Maybe.

I'm an atheist, but I think the problem is that the way the layman uses the word "nothing" is drastically different from the way scientists use the word. And then you have to ask what TYPE of nothingness you believe we came from, because what true "nothingness" is changes depending on which scientist you ask. But the short answer is, YES, exactly that nothingness that gave way to consciousness and life on a planet. Scientists will tell you the math even demands it.

I think it's true that what came before the big bang is completely unknowable to anyone, but of all the hypothesis I believe God, reincarnation, whatever... Is far down the list of likely inevitabilities.
