Has anyone done this?

Recipe I found was a cup of lye per gallon of water, add cornstarch to thicken, then apply to paint surface. Cover with plastic/freezer paper to prevent evaporation.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find the lye at Fred Meyer, so I grabbed a bottle of Kroger brand Drano gel. Let's see if it works!

If you have an Ace Hardware store around, they have Lye.

there are many reasons not to do this but let me chem it out for you.

CaSO4 + 2NaOH --> Ca(OH)2 + Na2SO4

it hurts plaster dude.

cool for brick but not much else if you ask me better to use the solvent.

might work on some metals too

would not put this on timber at all.
