It’s a way for people to leave a thought about you that was lasting. Whether that’s a good one or a bad one.

They can serve as a warning. Or an acknowledgment.

By denying anyone the ability to say anything about you. It could feel as if you were trying to hide something.

There’s a comment history. We are all open books.

In my country, we have freedom of speech but not like in the US. To be honest, I found the conception of it a bit stupid there, like thinking that freedom is doing whatever you want to do.

So here, we can say what we want as much as it is not:
- insult
- based on discrimination (racial, gender, religion, age, etc.)
- "revisionism" or "negationism" (don't know the exact translation). But basically, it's when you say Jew Holocaust was a fraud (and some othe historic facts)
- lies, especially on a person. (you take the risk to be judged for diffamation)

That's law. but beyond that, you can't really say everything, like any other society, without having the risk to be ostracized.

Obviously I have no problem with sheltering children but I feel we should be allowed to traumatize adults with whatever bad language raunchy sex stuff gratuitous violence we want.

Even offensive opinions but obviously I draw the line with inciting hatred. You should be allowed to hate but I don't think you should be allowed to explain to others how they should be hating as well.

No human should have the power to decide that for other people.

How would you feel if I told you there were certain things you could not say?

If you were to tell me "You can't say 'Go out and lynch all of the minorities'" I would tell you perhaps you're right I can't say that.

I understand, I'm all for free speech, I'm all for doing whatever you want as long as it doesn't harm others, inciting hatred harms others.

Sorry I took a long time to get back to you I forgot I posted in this thread.

I don't mean to manipulate by exaggerating the hatred, I don't mean to imply that you are saying that you should be allowed to incite people into murder, I was just exaggerating but I say all inciting of hatred should not be tolerated by society.

Freedom of speech is the fundamental freedom in any free society.  Without freedom of speech, no other freedom can exist.  Having said that, no freedom is absolute, including speech.  People in this thread who take an absolute stance on freedom of speech are doing so from ignorance.  They simply have not considered all of the ways that such a policy would be destructive to a society.

If you were to tell me "REDACTED" I would tell you REDACTED.

I understand, I'm all for REDACTED, I'm all for REDACTED, inciting REDACTED.

Sorry I took a long time to get back to you I forgot REDACTED.

I don't mean to REDACTED by REDACTED, I don't mean to REDACTED, I was just REDACTED.

That was fun, I'm starting to be pro censorship now

For some decades, now, I have seen different talkshows doing this gag -- from both sides of the political divide -- in which, you ask random strangers on a boardwalk elementary school-level questions.

Should they be teachers?

A WASP version of China's gaokao placement test, or Jim Crow, or robot like the fictional Athena from the "Tomorrowland" movie, would save me from so many redundant discussions.
