HALIFAX -- A former Nova Scotia RCMP officer who had been set to join the prime minister's security detachment two years ago was found guilty Monday of drug charges.

Justice Walter Goodfellow of Nova Scotia Supreme Court found Daniel Joseph Ryan, 33, guilty of trafficking in marijuana and breach of trust.

Ryan, who handled drug investigations for the RCMP detachment in Tantallon, N.S., was charged in January 2002.

Statements presented to the court said Ryan had been supplying one of his own informants with marijuana and hashish.

Ryan will be sentenced Aug. 30.

Each verdict carries a maximum five-year sentence.

At the time of his arrest, Ryan was scheduled to be transferred to Ottawa in January 2002 to join the prime minister's security detail.

but the funny part is this is more common then we think. i mean high end organized crime depends on crooked cops.

it was also great i seen a interview with a judge on tv abotu this. and he was talking about how can they even trust the police. which testamonies are takin as gold on the stand.

the dealer got caught and was set free for ratting out the cop, they both derserve a hangin, but the cop gets a thinner rope
