Advice on when to pick and when to leave mushrooms
    #26097244 -

Hi all,

I am foraging for Subs in the Blue Mountains near Sydney. I am finding on average a couple of mushrooms per walk. I have three known patches but they are not very productive. I don't pick pins but I grab any little mushroom I see. Cap diameter around 15mm are mostly what I am finding as I go every couple of days or so.

My question is, if I leave these 15mm mushrooms will they continue to grow into 30 or 40mm diameter monsters or will they just open out a little bit?

Not sure about where you are, but down in victoria by this time of year most patches have slowed down a bit.

You could leave them and expect that they could grow into much larger mushrooms, tho things like excess rain or prolonged intense cold can slow hinder this process.

If you're able to check the patches somewhat regularly, leave a few and see what happens

Strangely enough I went on another walk today and I came across a patch of about 25. I picked 10 and left the others there to grow. I suspect that it might be a known patch as I saw a dodgy looking character that looked like a forager there one day.

So I they might be gone before I get another shot at them but sharing is caring!
