What does 'playing games' even mean? * 1
    #26042356 -

Ive noticed on dating apps this phrase gets tossed out a lot. Who is this person who is playing these games? What game, is it parcheesi? I feel like it's probably not parcheesi.

It seems to me this is similar to the concept of being a 'good person.' Who out there is like "Ok, time to fire up Tindr. Cant wait to fuck with some people's lives and play them like fiddles." I really don't understand what this means to most people. Like they aren't interested in a serious relationship? That doesn't sound like a game to me, just casual? Any and all opinions and insight are appreciated

I think it's a word tossed around by insecure people or those that are set on finding an instant serious relationship via online dating. Which I think is rather silly myself.

I think there are some people who have a tendency of being coy and timid in showing their intimacy and commitment too, but IMO, that's only a problem if someone is doing so months down the line after meeting someone.

Playing games is when one person misleads the other person. Scheming basically. For example, a guy talks like he wants to be in love but when they lady wants to meet, he disappears and she doesnt hear back from him. Or when a woman leads a guy on that she wants to have a relationship but really shes looking for a free date. Just a couple examples.

But in these two examples, how do we know that these people would not fall in love, should they meet/date the right person? I doubt anyone is immune to that, and many first meets (via internet dating) establish that chemistry is not there, hence one person seemingly disappears..

True that.

Often, one person thinks the other person is "playing games" with them when in fact the other person is just indesicive or shy or just not committed to one person.

I'm big on examples. I'm engaged and I still talk to a former crush who's having boy troubles lately. I start talking to crush way more when fiancee is being distant and mean. When fiancee is being nice and caring again, I pull back from crush. This means I send these super mixed signals.

That's what playing games is. It's not like a "Mwahahaha, I'm gonna break this girl's heart" but it's what happens. I think that most of the time, they're not terrible people trying to mislead for attention so much they're people with conflicted feelings.

Yeah, I can definitely see that. It's kinda sad that people just aren't always on the same page but they mentally turn it into purposely cruel behavior. I agree that most people arent openly and purposely manipulative, its why this topic bothered me so much. I guess it's easier to think a guy/girl is evil rather than just accept they aren't interested because you don't click or don't want the same thing.

Pretending like you want a serious relationship when in reality you just want to have sex with the girl. That’s playing a game.

And a girl who is giving you lots of attention and talking to you a lot and acting interested in you yet in reality has no intention of ever actually having sex with you, that’s playing games. Just be up front with the guy instead of leading him on and playing games. I have been lead on by girls playing games too many times to count. These days if I like a girl I am more up front about it and if she tells me she’s not interested I end the charade and I stop letting her lead me on.

I know how to stir up the emotions of girls so that they like me more.

But, like Bob Marley said (Apparently):

"The biggest coward is a man who awakens a woman's love without the intention of loving her”

However, I did this when I was very insecure, and didn't know how to talk to chicks.

Guess it's when you hide behind a mask, pretending to be something you're not. To get something you wouldn't get if you were unmasked.

It's a very immature thing to do most of us probably shed once we grow up.

I mean, there's a best selling book called "The Game" that's all about how to be a peacock and get chicks to bang you.
