has anyone ridden a bus Cross country before? * 1

I was looking onto different options for transporting my 80lbs of fish home. One option is to mail it.  I was gonna leave it in the freezer hold till me make it back to Seattle cause shipping from Alaska is more expensive. Bringing it on a plane is another option, I'm sure the fish alone will be quiet an add on on top of my luggage and plane ticket. Another option I was thinking bout was a bus ticket. It seems you can get a greyhound from Seattle to Houston for little over 200$. It take a few days, but fuck it. Probably save a few 100 by bucks. Anyone know the policy for bringing bags onboard? I'd have my two luggage's and a cooler of fish round 100lbs if i went. Not sure that weight matters

I think theres a 50lbs weight limit on luggage for the bus. Not totally sure on that. I would check the website of the bus company u pick (likely Greyhound).

Are there luggage fees?  I terrible slow internet where im at. In the case of my 100lb cooler of fish, is it just an up charge?

Not sure on that one. But i checked Greyhound website, said u can go over 50lbs but theres a fee (didnt say how much).

Heres the prohibited items listing:

Dry ice,fly with it,pay the extra $ for additional weight,maybe divide it into 2 ,50 lb boxes ,see if southwest airlines can get u to texas,2 free checked bags  they give u

Have you looked at the price for mailing it?  Seems like that would be the most ‘reasonable’ (plus easiest) method so long as it doesn’t cost a fortune.

i took a gh from arizona to east texas....it sucks ass but it is probably cheaper. i just dont know how they'll approach the fish honestly seeing as its now probably classified as perishable food and not an animal.

Often cheaper to upgrade to first class airfare and you get all your baggage fees waived.

A bunch of airlines will ding you twice for after 50lbs. You are better to have 2 or 3 50lb bags rather than a 100lb bag and a 50. Some airlines won't let you have anything heavier than 65lbs.

I'd look at taking a train too. Usually trains have more generous baggage policies and they are more comfortable than a bus. Lots of trains have showers and stuff, but they take even longer than the bus.

I was on a train one time in my life for travel and it wasn’t that bad, kind of enjoyable actually.  Had champagne and chocolates with a lady I knew at the time.  I imagine a bus would make the trip a little harder than it needs to be but I’ve not gone that route before.

Make sure you're using an app to book your flights, and also join an airline, you'll save money, especially using an app to book your flights through.

Riding a bus would be ill-advised because you can fly for a cheaper or similar rate, why ride on a bus which is uncomfortable as fuck for a long time when you can fly and be there much faster and in greater comfort.

You'll spend money on food riding a bus for a few days, just fly.

Another option would be to take a train, I don't know shit about trains and the trip will take a few days, but they're cheap and comfortable.  Don't RIDE A FUCKING BUS!

My experience with flying is one carry on, one checked ($30ish), and I don't know about your fish but do you really need that many pounds of fish!  Holy fucking shit man.  I think there's something about prices for things 50lbs and over, maybe go with 50lbs or less of your precious fish cargo.  Dry ice that shite.

Yes I have. USPS doesn't offer priority mail to anything over 70lbs I think. I did an estimate and a 70lb package from Alaska is like 400$ or something. from Seattle it's like 200$. divide it in half, a 50lb package is like 120$ or something like that. That's just an estimate thou. I need to buy the cooler and gel packs still. The fish are packaged in two blocks about 1' x 2' x 6" weighing roughly 18 kilos.

With UPS, they offer a 5 day ground shipping for like 120$ or something for a 100lb package, but I risk the fish going bad. That actually might be the most plausible thou. I havent check fed ex yet

Yeah Lucis, we are fishing in an exotic part of Alaska where theres high quality fish. I wouldn't normally do this, but I cant pass up the opportunity to bring some of this stuff to my family. it be a nice surprise. We have Black Cod, Arrowtooth flounder, kamchatka, greenland turbot, rex sole and pacific ocean perch. if only only I get some mackerel now. Also a lot of squid. Nice little variety pack. Cant find this fish back home

2,300 miles from Seattle to Houston. Wonder how many tanks of gas that be plus the cost of renting a car. Probably expensive thou

Think I might have just found the answer. I can alla use greyhound express to ship up to 100lbs to a greyhound location in Houston

Sure southwest has pretty cheap fares from Seattle to Houston. Probably cheaper than the bus. I bet you could find flights under $150. Southwest you can buy a one way ticket and there’s no bag fee.

There are some $174 fares in early July

I took a bus from Colorado to NY like 10 years ago. 

It was terrible

47 hour travel time.

Do anything other than take a bus across the country.
