I feel really, really guilty about growing magic mushrooms
    #25903191 -

I have a closet dedicated to it. I've added a lock to it. I do things like shuffle my monotubs and SAB into the living room and then when my girlfriend or family comes over I need to shuffle it all back to the closet. I worry I'm going to get caught. I feel like a bad person. Are mushrooms really worth it?

Yes. If you dont get caught, it is worth it.

Also if it's your house dont sweat it.

Your GF doesn't have a clue about it?

I live in an apartment so there is a worry that maintenance or someone could come in without telling me (a day in advance I believe is the law).

She has no idea. I love her. She wouldn't understand though.

If it's almost done then finish it up, but if you just starting it then just hold off till you have a better place.

Even when I do finish I'll still have the glass petri dishes, agar, a big tub with two arm holes cut out of it, and a bunch of other accessories that would be very hard to explain to her or anyone else. I just feel terrible about the whole thing. It pains me to look at the things. Maybe I'm just not cut out for this. Or I need to find a girl that /would/ understand or IDK.

Lol if you really feel that guilty about just growing mushrooms then it's probably not for you.

Admittedly I ate 15 wet grams of my shrooms 3 hours ago - these were the first shrooms I've ever grown and eaten! I feel differently now. Still a bit of shame but not as much. I both love and hate this hobby. It's fascinating.

Why do you feel shame?  Are you feeling guilty about growing fungus forbidden by the man, or feeling guilty about hiding it from your GF?

If it's the latter, you need to tell her about it or reevaluate your relationship, IMHO.  If you feel like you need to hide or give up your activities because your GF won't approve, your relationship will have no trust and you're both gonna have a bad time.  Just my 2cents, good luck and congrats on the grow!

From an ethics point of view your not doing anything wrong.

Try some stealthier growing teks, spore vials/syringes + brf + shoeboxes.

As I was typing this up, I realized what I was doing is justifying what I'm doing... Hehe. So that follows:

We haven't been dating for the longest time and she's very judgey. Even forgetting all that, I trust no one with the knowledge that I {insert anything illegal}. The only person that does know is someone that grows too and introduced me to it. I'm extremely paranoid and careful. This mindset is pretty helpful when it comes to being safe, but at the same time it introduces a certain loneliness and feeling of criminality.

Don't feel bad, you're not hurting anyone by growing mushrooms - you peace, love, flower power hippie. You're not violent, racist, hurtful.
If someone doesn't understand maybe it's because you need to have a 6 hour long talk with them about ethnobotany and magic, alchemy and art, music inspired by all this, show your own creativity off, all the positive stuff.

You should wrap this up while that girlfriend is around.  She’ll turn on you if it fits her end and even though I could never feel guilt for growing mushrooms even though some guys are threatening kidnapping/prison, bankruptcy, being put on a black list for employers and all it is that they do to protect us against the harm of mushroom shoeboxes in the corner of your closet, I would feel regret.

Bitches are like smoke in the breeze.

Yeah I agree. She would turn on me if we ended up breaking up. She's just super straight edge. Growing is super fun though. Trying to keep it low key.

Also, I appreciate everyone giving kind words and not calling me a pussy. Haha. I like this community.

So I am kind of in the same boat, OP...ish. I have gathered all of my supplies. If it were up to me, I'd have a giant mono and a few dozen agar dishes laying around with (hopefully) mycelium all over them. The only thing delaying my grow is my wife. That sounds bad but I dont mean it like that. I love my wife more than anything in this world. We've only been married for 5 months but we've been together for 8 years. She is amazing, she accepting of my love of psychedelics. She has never had a psychedelic experience tho so she doesnt fully understand it (Twice we got acid duds and one time when I was less experienced, we ground up about 5gs of shrooms to split, we both thought it looked like a ton so we didnt take enough).

Anyways, we just signed a 1 year lease with my brother in law and 2 other roommates. It's a big house so growing discreetly would not be an issue. my wife and I are the only people who smoke weed in the house and I'm the only one who loves psychedelics. The others simply don't care. I'm currently in the process of getting ready to dot down and talk to my wife about why I want to grow. She thinks it's all about doing shrooms every weekend and getting high but I'm trying to explain to her that it's so much more than that. 🍄s are my religion(for lack of better word). They connect me with the universe. I need figure out how to show her what I mean. I know the easiest way would be to take shrooms with her but I also dont want to ever force a trip on someone. I am a FIRM believer that you ha e to let people find the 🍄 on their own, I will do my best to guide her/people to it but I would never pressure someone into it. I am kind of thinking out loud. I hope to talk to her either tonight or tomorrow as I am off Monday and would like to unwrap my PC and try some pastyplates. Any advice or anyone whose ever been in a situation like this? I am planning on just doing a shoebox for now. My wife has said that whenever we can get our own place she would let me grow, I just dont know if I can wait that long. That sounds immature but imagine telling the Pope he couldn't go to church for a couple years

Sorry OP, I do not mean to hijack your thread, only to add to it. You are not at all a pussy, the fact that you have empathy and worry about others is what makes the 🍄 community so magical and beautiful. We love you! Peace & 🍄

Another thing to think about is why do you feel the quilt? Is it because society tells us it is wrong and illegal? Or it is because you feel bad lying to the people you love?
Anyone who can take a step back and look at the world can realize that society doesnt necessarily have our best interests in mind. As long as you arent harming anyone, who cares 🤷‍♂️. I cant justify lying but if it is important to you, try having an adult conversation about why it matters and just get the discussion rolling.
As I'm typing this, I feel like I'm giving myself advice haha

You can’t grow mushrooms in a house with 4 other people who have no idea you’re manufacturing a schedule 1 drug.  That’s a real asshole move and also get your own thread!:crankey:
