I start with me smoking weed and if they aren't ok with that even if they don't do it, I find different friends.

Rather than 'laying all my cards out' up front (as someone said earlier), I do something like this; slowly/tactically let out 'taboo' interests (pretty much all mine are) to see how the person reacts/how judgemental/how cool they are. I've only go so much free time and I won't dedicate it to a human that looks down their nose at me, so I'm quick to identify and weed the types that would out of my world.

One can never have too many friends in this life. I make them every opportunity I can. Doesn't matter if they're a friend for five minutes/months/years/decades - EVERYBODY has something to teach you.

If it's something [making new friends] one finds hard, then one should push oneself to practice, for without friends we will stagnate, and that's a fate worse than death.

Also, it's not what you know, it's who you know. Rarely have I known a more relevant truism.

Jesus Christ. For anyone that questions the importance of having lots of friends; I just had a $1000/day job offer land in my lap because I went out of my way to reconnect with an old friend.

FML. And by that I mean wow. Just wow.

You seen the West Coast Shroomery Camping Trip plans over in the Gatherings forum?

Not sure I'll make it Colorado this year/ever, but I am (almost) definitely hitting the West coast this Spring.

Would looooooooooooove to see you there.

Let it be seen that you are nothing. And in knowing that you are nothing... there is nothing to lose, there is nothing to gain. What can happen to you? Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. It will only destroy what you are not.

Well, it's in the Banking sector, where things (apart from money) move very slowly, so I'm not expecting anything to come through until summertime, and it's not 100% (what in life really is) but after talking with him for a couple of hours just now it seems as good as mine. It's been many years since we last spoke, but we used to be real tight.

It could be a total gamechanger. Working for a European bank, remotely from home in England. It would be sooooo amazing to get away from the American work ethic I'm stuck with now.

And no, I NEVER made friends with anyone whilst looking for personal gain.

Somehow though, I have a habit of making friends with people in the right places.

It wasn't always easy for me to socialise, in fact I used to be downright antisocial as fuck in my youth, but I've pushed myself really hard in this life to be good with other humans, and that's basically the only reason I've ended up in the privileged position I'm in.

At certain levels of the game, you cannot progress without someone dropping your name as a recommendation.

Sounds like a pyramid scheme. Lol jk.

Its a piss off to me that the way the world works is that you sometimes have to know the right person, but the sooner you realize that the better. This is very different than just straight up using people though.

Finding the positive aspects in people really helps.  It isn't always easy to find but a lot of people are interesting if you can locate what gets them ticking.

Also knowing when people are squares that will never understand your perspective is a good skill.  These types are generally obnoxious and egocentric.
