Looking for advice/feedback

(I posted this earlier in a different Forum which wasn't the right place; I've asked it be deleted by admin)

Please forgive this long ass post but I need some input.  I know it's not difficult getting mycologists to voice  their opinions but I can't think of any other place I can post this and get some feedback, hopefully helpful.  I live in Chicago (grew up here) and really dislike my life here.  I used to live in SF and, while I miss it a lot, can't see myself moving back there given how expensive the rents are and how unstable housing is.  I know so many people who have woken up to a landlord notice announcing a 300% hike in rent.  I have a career that allows me to work almost anywhere.  I've also considered Seattle (too $$) or Portland (getting $$) but I'm thinking of moving to Denver.  I'm also gay and I grow psilocybe mushrooms.  When was the last time you read those 2 things in the same sentence?  I'm single, no kids, not much of a family.  Politically I'm progressive but I'll be the first one to say I'm not the most tolerant person.  I'm tolerant of people, just not shitty behavior. I grew up in the hood, work in the ghetto, and I'm burnt out on the hood ad all it's glories  I like a city with a good food scene, walkability, some decent museums, things to do,  but more importantly a place that's safe and pretty and laid back with great weather. By great, I don't mean it has to be summer all year long.  And friendly people!  As for the gay scene, I don't want Miami or Los Angeles. I like misfits.  I'm a misfit, always have been and I've grown to finally like that about me.  It's just that I want to be around other misfits, maybe even have a friend with whom I can share my pic of my first pinset.  (Seriously, that's a lot of work and patience!)  I haven't found my tribe and time is running out.  If you know anything about living in Denver, I'd love to hear from you.  All I ask is that if you don't pick apart this post; I"m not looking for a debate.  Thanks for hanging in and reading this!

Denver is one of the hottest cities in the USA, its also super expensive as most (all?) awesome cities are.

Not sure what the gay scene is like there, but most cities have a gay scene anyway.

Hello there! The gay scene is scattered and really laid back mostly. All the bars are scattered all over town, and there is no "strip" like in Dallas etc...and there really aren't many. There are affordable places to rent and buy, one just has to look and not expect to live right inside the downtown area. Go about 8-15 miles out and it's pretty reasonable like any other city. There are a lot of basements here so people rent those out and some have kitchens and bathrooms like an apartment with a separate entrance. Average rent in an Apartment close in will be 1,000.00-1,200.00 a month or more for decent, one can get  one for 850-900 and still be OK, but below 800 and it's really bad from when I was looking back in 2014. (bought a house recently). Aurora has a bad rep, but rent is reasonable there.

I love Denver, been coming here on and off for the last 25 years and finally moved here for good. This place will change drastically over the next 10-20 years due to the weed and the people moving here for business related to that. The small town Denver is going away. I predict it will be like DFW, Seattle and such in the future. They're trying to keep all the old buildings and "preserve the integrity and history of the neighborhoods" and blah blah blah. One can not fight progress nor gentrification, it's inevitable when a city grows. The really nice older buildings kept up will stay, the rest will go, just like any other place this has happened to. I like cities though. Lived in SE OK for 4.5 years and I realized rural life is not for me.

Denver is pretty chill. :shrug:

Portland on the other hand, is abit extreme. More expensive and full of homeless tweakers. I have love for both cities though. :heart:

Not sure about the gay scene in either city.

DM means direct message which means private message but they are not that private so people stopped calling the private message (PM) and switched over to Direct Message (DM) because asante and yathan read our private messages and make fun of us.
